I wondered if someone could look up a baptism in All Saints Loughborough parish records
Thomas Ingleman Hart - 10 October 1816 - parents Thomas Peter and Charlotte Jane (I got that from the familysearch pilot site)
I would like to know if there is a profession for Thomas Peter Hart and if there is a marriage for Thomas Peter and Charlotte Jane, and any siblings (although there are younger siblings baptised in Nottingham, so the family may have just been passing through)
Many thanks
-
on my list for later today /tomorrow sue.
Diddy ;D
-
Brilliant - thanks
-
whoops!! just got into the car before the heavens opened. :o
anyway - good info for you as follows:
Thomas ingleman s/o Thomas Peter hart & Charlotte jane chr 10/10/1816
abode; Devizes, wiltshire thomas Peter - innkeeper!
Arabella jane d/o Thomas Peter & Charlotte jane Hart 13/2/1819
abode: Loughborough TP: Innkeeper
I checked indexes 1791 -1820 and no other baps. no marriage 1810 - 1820 so i assume TP & CJ married in Devizes and moved to L'boro into a pub prob shortly before Thomas I's birth as abode still devizes.
I checked the local book of pubs /inns etc with historical detail - no mention of TP but next time in can check upstairs in local card index. may be there if entry in local paper for becoming innkeeper.
Diddy ;D
-
got it!! family search record search:
wilts had nothing so just put in England and:
Thomas Peter Hart = Charlotte Jane Handy 30/3/1815 Hampshire
guess they travelled around with the pubs!
Diddy (on a roll) ;D ;D
-
other births on Family record search:
Frederick Henry 1/6/1820 Notts
Frederick Peter 8/11/1821 Notts

Gosh that was quick - many thanks. That clears up a mystery - I have only been able to find Thomas Ingleman Hart on one census - 1851 - and it says he was born in Devizes.
I wonder why they moved around so much. Most people stayed in one place for generations in those days.
-
An innkeeper - I like it. I thought he might have been a preacher, moving around like that.
-
its possible he was born Devizes but bap.Loughborough that would explain abode -devizes which holds up the theory they had just moved.
looking for census now.

Don't go on looking for Rosa! I should have said - I know about Rosa, it is Thomas who I am having trouble finding
-
ok thanks! ;D will do my best!

It is a magnificent 3 generation all female household, though.
All I have been able to find of Thomas is something in the Australian archives that there was a letter waiting for him in Australia and then later he was involved in a Chancery case in England. And in 1877 they divorced (there is Rosa's petition for protection of earnings and property in the National Archives), and Rosa remarried. I wonder if there is a record of the divorce proceedings somewhere - perhaps that would tell me something about Thomas.
I just found the Charlotte Handy and Thomas Peter Hart marriage in Pallots - it says Devizes which makes sense (not sure where Hampshire came from)
-
You have done great already - the marriage and innkeeper information - I really appreciate it. Anything you want in Cambridgeshire?
-
devizes is in Hampshire!!
no connections to Cambs at all - my relations / ancestors are all from the NE & scotland!!
but ta anyway.
will have a look into the divorce question.
Diddy
-
records for divorces are not complete however i wonder whether this one in the National archives is relevent
Divorce Court File: 5152. Appellant: Thomas James Gibson. Respondent: Elizabeth Ann Gibson. Co-respondent: [...] Hart. Type: Husband's petition for divorce [hd].
Covering dates 1877
as Thomas wasn't living with Rosa its more likely he was having an affair? Roas would then have to protect her earnings. have you seen the NA file for this? i have ordered stuff from the NA before and it could tell you all you need.
Diddy
-
devizes is of course in wiltshire.....
i apologize for that senior moment!!
Diddy :-X
-
I have checked records in L'boro library but cannot find out which pub /inn Thomas peter was innkeeper of. the local papers do not go back that far and i can't find anything in the archives.
Diddy
-
Thanks for looking. I hadn't thought of Thomas being involved in someone else's divorce - just his own. Do you know what [...] means? Does it mean the name is illegible in the original, or just that it has been left out for cataloguing purposes?
I have asked the National Archives for an estimate for copying the chancery case documents and Rosa's protection of earnings/property.
-
don't honestly know about [ ] - it could have been kept back as innocent until proven guilty !! ;D
hopefully you will get some info from the papers. i requested some about my hubbys grandfathers battalion during ww1 - trench papers and boy do they have a story to tell!! we were able to pinpoint where he was injured (luckily survived) and sent home prior to the Somme. He was in the area where gas was used for the first time as well. amazing he survived at all - was sent back -and then wounds reopened and invalided out. he was an old contemptable in the 4th suffolks.
Diddy
-
Weren't the 4th Suffolks formerly known as the Cambridgeshire Militia? So you might have an ancestor, or at least an ancestor-in-law, with a Cambridgeshire connection.
-
The book i have also which greatly helped is;
The History of the Suffolk regiment 1914 - 1927 by Murphy, hutchinson Pubs.
No mention of the cambs connection so might have been earlier.

It was 1881 apparently - I got the information from this website

HI Just wondering if anyone could do another look up at All Saints - Loughborough.
Looking to confirm my Great x3 Grandfathers details.
IGI states he was;
Charles West born abt 1809 -Loughborough, Leics
Christening record for IGI says 23 jan 1809
Parents should be Gabriel West and Mary keighley - both of Loughborough or Shepshed.
Other real mystery is his Wife - Phoebe Hull born abt 1816 - Location unknown.
IGI states they married 3 Nov 1835.
I'm really after some details on her parents names and her place of birth?
Many Thanks in Advance.

hi there:
Marriage: Charles west, bachelor,otp = phoebe Hull,spinster,otp
3/11/1835 loughborough
Charles signed his name, phoebe her mark
witnesses: Harriet West; Thomas West; John Twells (come across him before as church member)
baptism: Charles West s/o gabriel west and Mary his wife
bap 23/1/1809 L'boro
Marriage: Gabriel west otp = mary Keightley otp
15/9/1805 L'boro
both their mark
witnesses: William Thorpe; Joseph webster
there was some problem with reading the occupation of gabriel on charles baptism so i looked in the L'boro indexes for 1791 -1812 (bmds) which confirmed him as a stockiner and also found:
Mary Ann d/o Gabriel West & Mary Ann bap 2/11/1806 L'boro
John Keightley s/o Gabriel West & Ann bap 5/7/1811 L'boro
Mary Keightley d/o John Keightley & Sarah bap 10/2/1793 L'boro
the John Keightley one is either wrong surname and wifes second name or illigitimate or?? might chceck actual record next itme in!!
Diddy ;D

Thankyou ever so much Diddy.
That's great confirmation for me and takes back at least another generation!
Yep the West's were definetly "Loughborough people".
My Dad is visiting the cemetery there also later this month - we have confirmed some (West's ) burials there also.
Many Thanks
Brownwest
-
Most of the L'boro records are transcribed in indexes without needing to go to the actual records and there were other wests there just in the volume I looked in.
the Local history library is open to all - you don't have to be a member of the library, so if you have time it might be worth a visit.

Thanks Diddy,
Unfortantely I live in Brisbane, Queensland, I might get my Dad to go though he visits the midlands from London on occassion.

To Diddy Miller,
This is brownwest.
Its been sometime since we spoke on roots. I was wondering if you cna give a bit more assitance on the local history library you mentioend previously - with all the records that index there?
My Dad is coming to Loughborough (form london) in late July 2011 and is going to check out some burials plots at Welford Rd Cemetry and perhaps some other information if we can get some more details on where is best to go?
Can you assit?
Regards
