Does anyone know when Google are starting their new Historypin?
It sounds great. Can't wait to try it out. I use "Street View" to find lots of places where my ancestors have lived, Historypin sounds like actually seeing these places when they lived.

From what I read this morning, they're asking historical societies and archives to upload their old photos. Then when you use Street View, there will be the option to use Historypin, if there is a photo to match the view.
I haven't looked into it yet, whether individuals can upload.
But I know that the NSW State Library have thousands of old photos archived...I've looked through hundreds from the Halterman collection... if those go online it will be magic.
Of course Bing already has a site to upload old photos but Historypin sounds much more interactive.

This is great, thanks for posting the URL, I have just added a shot I had to it. Flickr has a similar map feature, but this is more linked to dates etc so easier to look at particular date ranges. Hopefully it will take off and like Street View become a really useful historical resource.

Hi everyone
I have just heard on "You and Yours" this lunchtime about a new history website where you can download photos. You can also compare the photos with Google Streetmap photos today, and contribute your own story to go with the photos. It might be useful/interesting for RootsChatters. I have just had a look and it could be interesting. Website is www.historypin.com.

I have uploaded one photo to historypin - it wasn't difficult. Not much on there yet but could be really interesting.
