Title: Indiapaleale, R.I.P
Post by: Lydart on Tuesday 06 July 10 16:47 BST (UK)
Our dear friend and fellow RootsChatter Indi died 27th May, 2010.

Many people have expressed their concern for her sudden disappearance, so with RootsChat deb usa and sdbadger we have searched and found out this very sad news.

May she rest in peace and rise in glory with her beloved husband, John.

Sad news indeed. We chatted a number of times over the past year in chatterbox and I read her blog about her husband's illness.

She was one fascinating and strong woman, who I am sure was a blessing to many through the incredible way in which she handled her husband's illness and shared what was happening at each stage until his death. This was all the more moving, considering she too had battled illness herself.

May she rest in peace.

It is with a heavy heart that I type as I am saddened by the news of the passing of Indie. I, like others, first came across Indie in the chatroom and when "chatting" to her it was with the ease that one can only find through friendship. I  say friendship because like many I never had the pleasure to meet Indie face to face but only through the ether and the keyboard but I feel like a long time close friend has passed.

Goodnight m'duck and may you find the peace that you so rightly deserve.

OR.

I still can't believe it ... why her son and daughter-in-law didn't get in touch with me, I'll never know.

I'll get in touch with her sister-in-law when her office opens in two hours and learn what I can.

I'm so very heartsick ... she was a lovely woman and a very dear friend, but she and John are together again.

I love you and I'll miss you, indi

How dreadfully sad to suddenly think of someone who was always so full of life, in the past tense. I know a lot of the friends Indi was close to were worried, but at the back of your mind you hoped she was in England.

It's hard to believe, I am so very sorry.

I kept saying to Lydart that she was probably still in the UK or something equally 'safe'. Like many others, I didn't want to think the worst, even though the last blog entry was way back in April and it seemed so unlikely that she would have stopped writing it.

I too have been looking for Indi's messages on here and wondered if she was in Brum.

I had the pleasure of talking to her on the phone a couple of times last September when I was in California.

I have shed a few tears for her tonight. What a great pity. I loved the photos she took.

We shall miss her. What a great shame.

I regularly pass by the house where she lived in Brum. I wish I had known her before.

Thanks for your notice Lydart.

I just wished I'd done it earlier.  Many RC people have been asking me whats happened to her, as they knew she had been talking to me a lot during Johns illness and after he had died.  I hope I was able to help her a little.

I'm just so very, very, very sorry I didn't do more.  I can't believe I didn't know she was again ill, but so like her to not trouble others.

I still haven't heard from her sister or sister-in-law, but Mainey heard from her sister yesterday that Pam had been ailing.

The last time we spoke, we were still planning to get together again at one of the casinos....

I will miss her forever and still cannot believe I won't see her again.

But she is out of all the pain and misery and back with John.  I shall look for them on their beloved beaches.

And I'll await signs from her that she's working on all our brick walls!

Much love, Pam, always.

She was brave and strong, no holds barred, tell it like it is. Well read and widely travelled with a love of literature and photography. A blogger ? Well why not? I don't think there was much that Indi couldn't do when she set her mind on it. She was a Wife , sister, mother and a grandmother. For those of us in roots it was her genealogical advice and silly chatter in the chatterbox that will come to mind. For me it was all the many times she helped me and my family over the years.
There is a poem which I think sums up what our Indi would have wanted at this time.

                Remember Me
Remember me with smiles and laughter
for that is how I will remember you all.
If you can only remember me with tears,
then don't remember me at all

I think I will remember Indi best as she would say good night to us all in the chatroom.
"I'm off to water the dessert and toss some roadkill on the barbie while Mme and Mr. Indi enjoy a cold on before the sun goes down. "
Oh how she could make us laugh

Good bye my friend. Rest in peace with you soulmate once again.
Heather xoxo

That's lovely.   It was Indi's sense of fun, even when she herself was battling cancer that made her such a special person.

There's also:-

"Laugh, and the world laughs with you;
Cry ... and you cry alone."

The Rootschat world was able to laugh with her; we mustn't cry ...

I'm not quite sure what to say...I was away yesterday and have come back to this awful and lachrymose news about Indi :(

I'll always remember how frequently people would ask how she was whenever she appeared in the chatroom, which became less frequent of late and her presence was always missed, for obvious reasons. She was such a strong lady and so heartbroken after John passed. She is truly what a role model should be. Such an inspiration and so kind to others.

I am so very sorry to hear of the Indi's passing.  I met her on RootsChat in September of 2009.  We were second cousins once removed.  We exchanged many emails and enjoyed a few chats over the phone.  She was trying to locate "Alldridge" cousins.  She sent me information on my BHC Grandmother Ruth Rebecca Alldridge and her siblings.

I knew she was trying to go back to England for a visit with her sister and I thought she had finally got her passport in order to make the trip.  I called many times in June but only got her voice mail.  I then tried to locate her son and daughter an to my total shock, discovered her obituary.  I have been trying to get a hold of her son or daughter with no success.

If anyone can help me I would very much appreciate it.

Rest peacfully Pam,  Thanks for everything.

What a sad loss to Rootschat and to us all.  Like Wee Bairn ( :-* ) above, I remember the days in the chatroom when I first started on Rootschat some six or so years ago, and the laughs we used to have together.  Not only that, Indi and I shared Roots from a little village in Hereford called Leintwardine and I remember how happy she was at seeing the photos I took when I was lucky enough to visit the village, so I'm so glad to have been able to share them with her, I'm just so sad she didn't get a chance to get there herself.  Indi was a wonderful character, straight shooter with a wicked sense of humour.  You will be greatly missed, God Bless and RIP.  :-* :-*

I was there with you Cazza and Wee Bairn, in the chatroom, chatting away and having a few laughs....I remember Indi fondly; how much fun she was, and how helpful she tried to be to others here....such a great lady, much missed by fellow Rootschatters, as we can see by the length of this thread.

I hadn't noticed this sad news until now. :(

I enjoyed Indie's comments - used to make me smile.

My condolences to all who knew her well. I trust she is resting in peace now, reunited with her beloved John.

...and let us continue to remember her witty remarks and smile as we acknowledge our lives were the richer for her presence - real or digital.

I have also been off line for a week and have only just come across this thread.  I remembered that she inspired me at my most unhappy time at the beginning of the year and have just looked back to read it again.  The Nun's advice is so true and I found her last sentence very moving.

Dear Abiam,
MY thouhts are with you. As many of the Rootschatters know, I lost my lovely husband of 27 years last June. His sister is a Nun and she gave me some great advice:

Don't try and get past it - you can't. Don't try and get over it - you can't. Make the death of your beloved part of the wonderful life you shared.

I, too am abroad and would love to go home - time will tell.

I have joined a grief chat room for widows and widowers - and have met some lovely people and have even been able to laugh on occasion. Send me a PM if you want the addy.

Good luck with your move, my dear, I will hold you in my heart.

Indi

I read a lot of her posts over the last 2 or 3 years and found her to have great humour, in adversity, and sincere feelings.  It is so sad that she didn't make her trip home.
Indi, you will be sorely missed by many.

I just got off the phone with indi's sister-in-law, the nun to whom Abiam refers.

She said that indi checked herself out of the care facility she was in to recover from the hip surgery and went home.  They last spoke on 20 May, I believe she said.

indi didn't want any service so there was none, but she and John were interred together in mid-June.

Her sister-in-law will keep me apprised.

We can all take some comfort in she did not know she was so ill until the end and went very quickly and is now at peace.

Dear Everyone,

I cannot tell you how moved I am to read all your very kind tributes to my dear sister Indi.   She was a wonderful person and I loved her dearly and there is a great hole in my heart since she departed to be with her beloved John.  We talked almost daily and she told me about all the people she was in contact with at Rootschat.. She really enjoyed helping people find their ancestors.  She was so funny at times, you would split your sides laughing. She was also very brave, kind and generous, a real brick.

Thank you all so much......your messages mean a lot to me.  Best Wishes Anjobanjo

Hi Anjo

Welcome - sorry it's under sad circumstances.

Indi was so looking forward to her trip "home" and we had planned a beer in your garden (not sure if she'd told you about that, lol!)  She was obviously very fond of you too.

She was a unique lady: much missed.

Kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

We must meet up one day to have a beer in Pam's memory ... even though (to her great horror !) I don't drink.

Anjo, you take care of yourself.  You meant the world to indi and I'm so glad you had your last visit with her.

I'm just so very sorry she never made it back to her beloved England and had the chance to meet you, Dave, and all the folks she was planning to visit with.

There's a big hole in my heart but it will heal in time, knowing she and John are together again.  I'm so very glad to have known them both.

ohhh wow what a shock!

I have been offline a couple of weeks and the 1st thing I saw when I came in here was this thread!

I thought like so many others that Indi was just offline as she was in England, we had a long chat about flights and routes to England (lol and the pros & Con of flying British Airways) a couple of Months ago, and I knew she was realy determined to be in England over the summer, so I just presumed that as she wasnt online she was over here & I had just missed her telling people she was off on her travels.

RIP Indi, you made such a wonderful addition to our family in here and you will be sadly missed.

Hopefully she will be sat on that bar stool beside all her missing ancestors finding out all about them now ...................... no more brickwalls, only answers :)

May you rest in peace now Indi, you are with John and your daughter now, God bless you what a great lady. :)

I haven't been on RC for ages, but thought I would take a look around today and realised I had left myself logged in. I found a PM from Margaret1 (thank you Margaret) with this link.  I had been told of Indi's passing by Matty some time ago and was very saddened.

Indi was a real inspiration.  She was a fighter and wasn't going to let her illness get the better of her if she could help it.  All the treatment she endured, the awful throats, which she tried to calm with icecream and cold beers, made me ashamed of moaning about aches and pains.

Her comments always made me smile or laugh, and I loved her photographs on These Sunny Days etc

She will be missed by so many for different reasons, but she will never be forgotten by those of us who admired her courage, enjoyed her sense of humour and were enveloped in her warmth and love.

Indi, may you and John be eternally at peace.

Su

I had this poem read at my mums funeral a few months ago, and would like to post it here, in memory of Indi and for all her friends.

Gods Garden

God looked around his garden
And found an empty place,
He then looked down upon the earth
And saw your tired face.
He put his arms around you
And lifted you to rest.
God's garden must be beautiful
He always takes the best.
He knew that you were suffering
He knew you were in pain.
He knew that you would never
Get well on earth again.
He saw the road was getting rough
And the hills were hard to climb.
So he closed your weary eyelids
And whispered, 'Peace be Thine'.
It broke our hearts to lose you
But you didn't go alone,
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home.
