Title: Gray
Post by: Hunter51 on Tuesday 06 July 10 15:58 BST (UK)
Hi

William Gray b1770 Wooler Northumberland married Esther Lile, thay had four children John 1795,  Edward 1833, Elizabeth 1816, William 1819,
My question is Elizabeth had a son Robert Gray 1835, so she did not marry the father, I have the birth date for Robert as 30 Oct 1835, and a Christening date as 1 Dec 1835 at the United Presbyterian Cheviot street NC Wooler, but can not find the christening on the IGI church records for that date, is there any way to find out about the father, and I can find them on the 1841 census but can't find them after that can any one else find them.

Thanks Alan...

Hi Alan,
I can't help with the birth, nor can I find Elizabeth in the 1851 census but have found Robert.
1851 living with the Davy family, High St, Wooler as a servant
1861 he was living 2 Goulburns Close, Newcastle and now married to Dorothy who was born Hexham c1837. Robert was 25,  a Cabman, b Wooler and they had a daughter, Esther, 1yr, born Newcastle.
RG9; Piece: 3824; Folio: 17; Page: 27
1871 living Percy Street, St Andrew, Newcastle. Robert was a Cab Driver, wife still Dorothy and children Hannah 10 and William 5 both born St Andrew.
RG10; Piece: 5087; Folio: 46; Page: 12
1881 living Carlisle St, All Saints, Newcastle; Robert, 44, Coachman, widower; William F Gray 12; Elizabeth H Gibbon, mother, widow, 67, born Wooler
RG11; Piece: 5062; Folio: 135
1891 Elizabeth Gibbon was in the Union Workhouse, Elswick, Newcastle.
I have to close now but that will give you some extra leads, I hope!

Okay.  I have a DNA test that may shed some answers.  Hoping to put our collective minds together.

Esther Lile was born 1775 so I seriously doubt she was the mother of EdwardHray born 1833 and it seems quite an unlikely gap from the first child John Gray born 1795 (who is my 3rd ggf) to the others.

OK I believe you made a typo in Edward's birthdate which should be 1813 not 1833. That's believable
