Does anyone have access to Hockworthy Parish records or know where I can obtain transcriptions?
The parish records are not in the IGI. The only transcriptions I have found are marriages 1813 to 1837 which have been been transcribed by the Devon FHS and I have obtained.
They include the marriage of my ancestor Mary Perry to John Palmer in 1813.
I am trying to find Mary's birth and family. I know from later censuses she was born in Hockworthy.
I have a PCC will of William Perry of Hockworthy in 1834 in which he leaves money to his wife Mary and children. He has a daughter Mary of an appropriate age but she is not my Mary as she has a different married name.
I am confident it is the same family as my Mary called one of her son's William (which was not a Palmer name). She is therefore possibly Williams's niece.
Please can anyone help?

Thanks for this info. It has inspired me to look again at this branch of my family tree after a long gap! But I am still perplexed as neither of these births seem to fit. John and Mary married in October 1813 had 11 children between 1814 and 1837. If she was born in December 1797 this would mean that she was under 16 in October 1813 so too young for this marriage. If she was born in April 1781 she would have been 56 in 1837 which is too old to be having children then.
John was born in 1783 and I get the impression she was younger than him. I have estimated a birth date around 1794.
I have seen her grave but the gravestone which is very worn does not appear to give her age. Nor have I found a burial record.
Thinking it through ...... I know she was born in HOckworthy per later censuses, but she could have been baptised elsewhere??? ....... I have a possible death in 1867 and could send for certificate which might give indication of age , but not where she was born and this might not be her as there are alternatives ........ um.....!!!!!!!!

If you go on Findmypast uk you and search just the devon baptisms with her name, or the mother and father names, by the parish etc. It has images of the baptisms too. Perhaps as you know the other childrens names you could work it out from there. As you say it may not be Hockworthy, but look to see where the others were baptized. My free trial with them is over so I cant look

Both witnesses to the marriage were Perry, her parents maybe. Got an image of the marriage but no idea how to insert it here. Witnesses were Samuel Perry and Fanny Perry. This is 10th March 1813.

possible child maybe of Mary and Johns marriage. There is a Mary Palmer born Hockworthy 1794 in the 1851 census with a child named Thomas but he is older, thinking along the lines of one son dying and her naming another after him? Edited to add this child did die in 1815. Burial in same place as birth

You said earlier If she was born in April 1781 she would have been 56 in 1837 which is too old to be having children then.
Think you done the sums wrong...if you are referring to her marriage date of 1813. Or were there children born in 1837?

My last thought for the night is is this. As witnesses to the 1813 marriage of Mary were Samuel Perry and Fanny Perry, I am thinking was Samuel possibly Marys brother?. I say this because the previous year in Hockworthy was a marriage of Samuel Perry to a Frances (possibly known as Fanny maybe?)
