Title: Barbados: Graydon help please!
Post by: skymoo on Monday 05 July 10 23:38 BST (UK)
Im looking for information on my ggggrandfather William Graydon.  According to his Chelsea Pension records he was born in 1827/9 in St Munchins Limerick Ireland.  In 1847 he joined the army in Barbados and served in the Quartermaster Generals office for the next 26 years!  He retired in 1874 and it states that he intended to continue living in Barbados.
His son, my gggrandfather, William Walrond Graydon, was born in 1850 in Barbados according to the army indices.  His mothers name is recorded just as Isabella on the birth certificate which is registered at St Mathias.  On FDS is a record of their five other children's Christenings which states Isabellas name is Anna Isabella Campbell.
I can find no record of the marriage of William and Isabella in the army records and have no idea if they were married before the journey to Barbados.
Im at a loss as to where to go now.  I know Campbell is quite a common name in Barbados but as to whether that is relevant I dont know.  Id also love to know if the middle name given to gggrandfather of Walrond is an indication of some ancestry or just an attempt to try and gain some kind of pretended kinship with Humphrey Walrond, the Governor of Barbados.  My mother was told by her grandmother that her family was descended from him and we would of course love to know if this family story is true or not!
Thanks for any help or advise

Thanks Shaunj  :)
I had wondered if her surname would be Walrond until I saw the fds entry.  I think I may have to pay for a researcher in Barbados... I cant afford to go there myself unfortunately lol
I guess I will have to start saving up the pennies!
