I'd like to know more about my grandfather's whereabouts while fighting with the british army during WWII. He didn't discuss much about it, so I have almost no information. I don't have the number of his unit or his service number.
The little I know is that he was in Northern Africa (possibly Egypt), that he became a Major, and that at a certain point he was (running?) a prisoner camp that got flooded with italians after Italy surrendered.
Any ideas? Any hints? Any information? I would be very grateful if someone could help me get more information about him.
Best,
D.

It looks like he was commissioned into the Pioneer Corps, 12th August 1944:

His service record will still be with the MoD:

Just a thought........... if this man didn't pass out of Cadet School until August 1944, would he have been a Major in the timeframe you are looking at?
Do you have more details, such as date of birth, that may help?
Do you know if he was a pre-war regular?
I know virtually nothing about WW2, but some-one should be able to pin down his service number: 14435217 (326810 is presumably his cadet number)

I know he was born in 1912. I'll try to find his exact birth date.
As far as I know he was not a regular before the war. As far as I know he studied Law in Cambridge -though he ended up running a farm in Argentina were he was originally from. And he didn't pursuit a military career after the war. I think most probably he was a Volunteer Reserve.
Not sure we are talking about the same man...
Anyway, I'll try to look more into this lead. Thanks!

BTW: thanks, Phil.

It doesn't look like this is the same man does it.
The service number, from what I can gather, is a post-1942 General Service Corps number, issued to all new recruits.
