Title: NOYES family in Burbage, Wiltshire county
Post by: frjdrdw on Sunday 04 July 10 16:52 BST (UK)
I continue to search for any family for William Noyes, born 1824 in Burbage - death certificate says father was John Noyes, born Parish of Burbage, mother is listed as Mary Cook, born also in Parish of Burbage - William can be traced forward in his life from his immigration to the states in abt 1858 and his marriage and death here. He had three children, just in case names that run in families might help - sons Herbert William, John Thomas, and daughter Martha Ann -  I have searched for over 10 years and the closest I've come is to john noyes and mary Crook, but the dates don't seem to fit for William - anyone have any info on this line back in Burbage??  Thanks, this has truly been a deadend street for a long time!! :(  Fran

I think I may have the answer. John was born in Burbage in 1804.  His father was Thomas Noyes.  However, Thomas married Mary Lea and they had 10 children before Mary died.  He then took up with a lady called Sarah Hope. Sarah's husband Philip Hope disappeared shortly after their marriage, so she was not free to marry again. She bore Thomas Noyes seven children, one of them John.  These children sometimes called themselves Noyes and sometimes Hope, so if you look for John Hope you will probably find him.

I am descended from Thomas Noyes and his wife Mary through their son Septimus.

Best wishes

Elizabeth Noyes

I realise this maybe a shot in the dark given that the last post on this thread was in 2012. I am wondering whether Sarah Hope holds the key to my 4xGreat Grandfather. My line of Noyes seem to swap between the surname Noyes and Hope. 'Goodland' - you mentioned that Sarah bore Thomas Hope seven children - I have only found 6 of them. Do you happen to know if they had a son called Charles around 1793? The only Charles Noyes I have found was born to James and Alice Noyes but can't see a connection to the surname Hope with these parents.
