Hello, I am pretty new to this,
I picked up a family tree from a relative of mine (Not sure how accurate it is though) it goes back to the two names.
John O'kane (of Gortmacrane, Kilrea) Married Susan Diamond (Of Tamney Ranking, Swatragh) - They were married at around 1840.
My Direct line then follows this path from
John & Susan >
Joseph Kane & Mary Curran (or O'Curnin) >
Joesph & Rose Mcgarry
Henry John Kane & Vera Colins (Henry Born around 1918, Died 1998 (Rugby)) Lived in Greenoch
Joseph Peter Kane
Robert Kane (born in South Africa)
It would be great to find anyone else on here who may have a link to my tree. Please get in touch.

Welcome to Rootschat. Gortmacrane (Tamlaght O'Crilly civil parish) is outside Kilrea and Tamneyrankin (Desertoghill Parish) is near Garvagh. O'Kane/Kane and Diamond are both very common surnames in the area.
Added- there were still Kanes and O'Kanes in Gortmacrane townland at the time of the 1901 census but no Diamonds in Tamneyrankin-

Thanks Very much for your reply, I have traced John to being born in Gortmacrane & dying in Drumgarner in 1866 ( I have a copy of his deat certificate).
I suspect that Susan Diamond was actually from Glasgow & not Ireland as i was told. she moved to Scotland after the death of John, and there is also a cenus report from Scotland which seems to fit!.
I am really interested in trying to find more relationships with John, either parents or Siblings, I cant seem toget much more out of Ancestory.co.uk
Rob :)

Other than transcripts of Scottish census records there will probably be little to help you on Ancestry.

I am a descendant of John Kane and Susan Diamond. You seem to know more about their Irish background than I do, but I know a fair amount about those of their children who made it to Scotland (including Joseph Kane and Mary Curran). Get in touch if you want to compare notes. I think there's a way of sending personal messages through this site but I haven't worked out how to do it yet!
Best wishes
Dominic

Hi Dominic: Are you also researching Susan Diamond/ john Kane?
-
Yes, they are my GGG-grandparents. If you're researching them too, please send me a personal message and we can exchange data.
Thanks

Hi Can you tell me where your GGG grandparents lived to see if we have the same information? Thanks Eileen:)
-
John Kane died in Drumagarner, near Kilrea, County Derry, in 1866. If you look further up the chain, Rob seems to have found some more specific place names in Ireland which I didn't have. I haven't heard back from Rob so I suspect he is not using this forum any more.
Susan Diamond also came from Ireland but she moved to Glasgow with her children and died there in 1889.
-
Hi I'm still not clear how you fit into this tree. Rob and I have spoken on the computer. I believe he follows the Kane gang on Ancestry.com
-
I am their G-G-G grandson, descended from their son John, who married Mary Ann Mitchell in Glasgow in 1869. The other children of John Kane and Susan Diamond that I am aware of are:
- Margaret Kane (married William Mooney in 1865 in Kilrea)
- Isabella Kane (married James Lochery in 1884 in Glasgow)
- Joseph Kane (married Mary Curran in 1882 in Glasgow)
- Patrick Kane (married Martha Nugent in 1878 in Glasgow)
Thanks for the tip about Rob. I'll have a look on that forum too.
Regards
Dominic

Hi Dominic: My name is Eileen Breen. I am Great Grand daughter of Patrick Kane who moved to USA in 1888. I have a tree also on ancestry look for photos of the Kane's in my tree. Do you have a tree on ancestry? Do you have any photos of John, Margaret or Isabelle? Your welcome to use any pictures we have. It would be easier to communicate via ancestry as John, James, Rob, Cathy, and Annmarie and I all are working on this tree together! Do you have a private email? You can send it to me via ancestry Take care, Eileen:)

Hi cousins,
I received a CD from a cousin recently(a McElroy descended from Drumagarner) and am amazed at what he managed to come up with. I too am descended from John Kane & Susan Diamond, my great grand parents are the Joseph and Mary Curran mentioned below and actually have a photo of Mary. They had a son John, amongst other others, who married Martha McWilliams, on 5 October 1916(a good year) at St Mary's, Drumagarner. Eileen I think I seen elsewhere you were interested in the McWilliams of Drumagarner. These were My grandparents although I only remember my grandfather, who we called Dado. he was in fact Scottish though Martha was Irish from Drumagarner, and by the looks of her wedding photo a very good looking women... it's a Kane thing. They have 5 weans, one being my Dad Henry, or rather Harry.
I am a technophobe but if any of the above interests you, let me know. The Kane's are still going strong over here and hopefully my son Scott will keep the line going but at 19 I hope that doesnt happen too soon.
i am Richard and we live 9 miles outside of Glasgow.
Just remember " a stroked cat is gentle" ! still not sure about that one!

hi cousin! I'm sorry it took so long to get back to you. I haven't done genealogy in a while. My family tree is on ancestry.com under Eileen Breen

Well, it looks like I'm a bit late to the party. I just found this today and no one has been here in a year. I am John and Susan's gggranddaughter through their son Patrick. My grandfather was Frank Kane and he lived in Detroit where he practiced law. I've exchanged information with and met both Eileen and John McElroy. I'm happy to share what I know.
