Title: Andrew Brown - Help Please
Post by: Sheepherder on Saturday 03 July 10 10:16 BST (UK)
I am trying to obtain info on Andrew Brown's ancestors and have hit a brick wall.  The Andrew Brown I am interested in was born on 3 Jan 1830.  He married Elizabeth Redmond (?) on 19 Dec 1852 and emigrated to Australia on the Conway in 1862.

A now departed family member told me that Andrew Brown was in some way related to Robbie Burns.  I would be very interested to discover if this is true, and if it is, how.  Thank you.

There is an Andrew Brown baptised on 3/1/1830 in Tarbolton, Ayr son of Andrew Brown & Janet Jamieson from the IGI. Is this the right info and do you have it already?

he had siblings Samuel b1833, Jane b1836, Jessie (Janet) b1838

Andrew Brown senior abt 1796 Maypole Ayrshire and Janet Jamieson born Tolbolton abt 1806 there are a couple of trees relating to this lot on ancestry but I can see no obvious link to Robert Burns (although he did have a few illegitimate children!).

The IGI is free to search on http://www.familysearch.org/eng/default.asp

Hi Sheepherder,

See this link from 2008 - http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,309184.msg1903878.html#msg1903878 - it would appear to confirm that Andrew's father was the grandson of Gilbert Brown and related to Burns through his mother, Agnes Brown.

Good find Hume, just goes to show sometimes the best place to start research is on here! That has certainly saved a lot of time and possibly money.
