Hi

I'm trying to trace my family name, SCOLLON in Scotland, I've made it back to Edward SCOLLON married Annie Sherman in 1887, his father was also Edward SCOLLON and mother Ellen B...can't read the rest, which I got from Edward and Annies marriage record. 
I have seemed to hit a wall from here, it appears that their last name could have changed as I understand they may at this point come from Ireland.  Does anyone know how to proceed from here?  And how do I know which spelling SCOLLON was changed from?

Spelling would have been quite fluid, often based on pronunciation, with many people not being literate.
To trace the family in Ireland you need to know both the family's religion as well as where they lived (parish if not actual townland not just the county or 'Ireland').
It's best to work back through all available records so you should check each Scottish census record for clues as to when the family might have arrived in Scotland as well as Scottish certificates.
