Title: barclay/turner/sands/hodgson/MEIGH
Post by: joy.e on Wednesday 30 June 10 17:12 BST (UK)
Hello..I'm a newbie(and from Belfast)

I'm just saying hello for now 'cos I've just found this forum, and you seem like a friendly/helpful bunch. I haven't read too many posts yet, but once I've familiarised myself with the forum etc, no doubt I'll be back again with lots more questions.

I'm researching my dad's side of the family - BARCLAY from Meigh aka Killeavy in Forkhill.

My grand mother and grand father,(Thomas and Edith Barclay)my great grand mother and great grand father (Jonathan and Alice/Alecia Barclay) and my great great grandmother (Elizabeth Barclay) are all buried in the (part ruined) Church of Ireland in Meigh

I think I must have some distant relations still living in the area who are descendants of my great aunt Elizabeth (Betty) Anne Barclay who married  Hugh (?) Campbell,so if any of their family happen to read I'd love to hear from you.

I'm also keen to contact Chris H_ who was looking into the family tree a few years back because his Grand mother Hazel is my great aunt.

I'm really interested to hear any suggestions you might have about family tree research because it is a bit like looking for a needle in a haystack.
I've found great stuff on the 1901/1911 census,I've been to the PRONI...but think I was way to premature visiting ...there is just so much info and I need to be a bit more focused before I go back again.I've also left a telephone message with a minister who should be able to give me a better understanding of what the saying ''in local custody'' actually means.

If you've read this far...Thank you  ;D     and if you think you might be related I'd love to hear from you.
Joy

Welcome to Rootschat. This isn't a forum for tracing living people so I've removed some recent details from your post. See Posting Guidelines in Help pages-
www.rootschat.com/help/posting_guide.php

Since you're just starting to trace your family have a look at Introduction to Irish Records-
www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,442233.0.html

I've also left a telephone message with a minister who should be able to give me a better understanding of what the saying ''in local custody'' actually means.
'Local custody' means exactly what it says- the records are in the custody of the church rather than copied on microfilm at PRONI or elsewhere. Generally this means you need to contact the minister or whoever deals with the records for that particular church and ask for details or make arrangements to view the records- each church will have it's own rules about access.

Hi,
Welcome again. I am not related but I have found one marriage which could be one of yours. On 20 Jan 1889 Jonathon Barclay Married Alicia Turner in Killevy Church of Ireland , Newry. The parents were John Turner and Nathaniel Barclay.
I have also found a marriage of a Nathaniel Barclay to Elizabeth Anne Sands in Loughbrickland Presbyterian Church, Banbridge on 29 Jun 1853.

Regards

aghadowey...thanks for the info and apologies for posting the living relative stuff...I got so carried away I never even thought...sorry
Kingskerwell...you are AMAZING !!! how on earth did you manage to get this information ???  I've only been looking into my family tree for a few weeks and although I'd managed to find out the date/location of Jonathan and Alicia's wedding, I only knew the year of Nathaniel and Elizabeth marriage. Your information is great...another wee piece of the jigsaw....thank you

I have an interest in the Barclay family of Aghaderg Parish (Loughbrickland) and Nathaniel was a popular name in this branch.
