I'm rather confused with the pricing of the two Ancestry subscriptions.
The World Wide (UK) is priced at GBP£155.40, using an online cash converter this is equal to AUD$269.20.
World Heritage (AU) price AUD$299.88, equal to GBP£173.10.
Comparing the World Wide and World Heritage, the records they offer are the same.
If my calculations are correct, I'm wondering why we Australians have to pay more to access the same records.
Anyone have any idea.

Hi Sarra,
I wonder if it has to do with the changing exchange rate. I'm sure there wasnt that much difference when I signed up 12 months ago. But then again im not sure if I checked that closely.
I was about to go to England and new the exchange rate was roughly 2 - 1.
Hopefully someone else can give us a better idea.
Cheers Ted

Hi
Yes, its all to do with the exchange rate. There has been quite a change over the last few months. It will be interesting to see what they do when they review their subscriptions as their major currency is the US Dollar.
One other advantage of living in Australia and subscribing via .co.uk is that its further reduced in that we don't pay the VAT. My renewal a couple of weeks ago for the Worldwide subscription through .co.uk was $232.83 AUD including the banks international currency transfer fee

i used the uk site a couple of months ago to renew. i emailed the oz site and asked if they would match the price, they declined so i saved about $100 and got the worldwide sub.
:D :D :D

Hi Andy & Tiger,
My Worldwide sub just expired few days ago. I'm hunting for a good deal to renew it. AUD$232.83, seems a better deal than AUD$299.88. I only paid half price for it last year - someone on R/C mentioned it to us.
Tiger - what was the asking price on Ancestry.co.uk - a few months ago? was it better than AUD$232.83

iv just had a look and cant see what i paid. its showing ww sub at $449.95 at the mo. from memory i paid about $230 which is what you are getting quoted at the mo.
i also used another email and sign in to get a cheaper price.

Hi,
definitely exchange rates.
Anyway, looking at my emails from ancestry uk -The annual world wide membership I ( well hubby)was charged (just 2 months ago in April) was GBP 132.26. - I presume that is with the VAT knocked off. I didn't purchase it, it was a present from hubby to me .
The credit card statement in front of me for the purchase of it : ancestry fee of GBP 132.26 was converted to au $225.24 ( exchange rates that day in April ), included in that $225.24 price is a *$6.55 fee for exchanging pounds into dollars ( *got to love the banks haven't you ::) - the credit card didn't used to charge for purchasing in foreign currency until recently)
Kind regards

perth tiger,
I can see the page on Ancestry au - where it refers to AUD$444.95, I don't understand why it quotes that amount, when on the same page it quotes AUD$299.88, for the World sub. It's not an introductory (mentioned in signup page) offer at the lower price, when Ancestry UK, are quoting GBP£155.40 = AUD$261.35.

Wish my hubby was so generous - I have to hide the credit card so he doesn't know how much things cost ;D
Seems you got a good deal. Banks they will never go broke - will they?. ::)

hi sarra
it doesnt make sense does it, i would go through the uk site even if you only save a little bit. maybe then ancestry au will realise they need to change their pricing policy :) :)

Hi
The subscription rate for Ancestry.au of $299.88 AUD is a special introductory offer for new customers, the normal rate is $449.95 AUD and thats what would be charged on renewal. The rates would no doubt have been set in the United States. I suspect than when Ancestry last reviewed their subscription rates it would have initially been in US Dollars for Ancestry.com and then converted to local currency for Ancestry.uk, Ancestry.au etc The costs would have been pretty similar irrespective of which site you subscribed through but substantial changes in exchange rates have caused the current differences. It will be interesting to see what happens when they next review their rates.
I doubt whether Ancestry.au have much room to move re rates without the ok from Ancestry head office. Ancestry UK is also a lot cheaper than Ancestry.com at the moment

Andy,
Thanks for that informative explanation.
Certainly a big difference in price for UK and AU subscriptions, at the moment.
perth tiger,
Andy has made it clear for us. I agree buy from the UK.
Thanks
