I am interested in William Browne 1831-1908. A skinner in Watling Stret in his early years, he was reputed to be a United Irishman and definitely secretary of the Irish National Foresters Friendly Society in 1900 and before. In his later years he had a fruiterers shop in Ormonde Quay and died there in 1908 aged 77 years.
I am particularly inteested in his siblings and parents.
-
This could be him on the 1901 census :
Browse family, Ormond Quay, (http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Dublin/Inns_Quay/Upper_Ormond_Quay/1280986/)
If you could locate a cert for the marriage of William and Margaret it would give you their father's names..

William's Father was Henry, also a skinner in Watling Street. His Mother was Maria Sherlock but I dont know where or when they married, presumably before 1831 possibly St James parish in James Street Dublin. How do I get these details
-
There are Dublin City parish records online at http://www.irishgenealogy.ie/
more are due to be added later this year
p.s. I see you are in Dublin... RC records also on microfilm in the National Library

Greetings,
My great great grandfather George Browne was a skinner in Watling Street. I wonder if they were related?
-
Wow, William had a brother George buried in Glasnevin cemetery born 1831, died 1873. Does this ring any chimes?. Father was Henry and as far as I can ascertain Mother was Maria Sherlock
-

No info on George but he and Wiliam seem to have been born in 1831, pehaps twins. I am descended from Wiliam and I have a fair body of info on his descendents. George was married but I have no info on his wife or children. Anything you have would be of interest. eorge's Father was Henry and he and his family are buried in a Vault in Glasnevin (see atached)

-
that marriage record is on the IrishGenealogy Website at http://www.irishgenealogy.ie/
see Browne/Daly marriage 1887 (http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/42b0de1395678)

This is not the George in my burial cert as he died in 1873. May be his son, if so he would be William's nephew.
-
marriage records do not always specifically state if the father of the bride or groom are deceased or not .. so this George may not necessarily have been alive at the time of marriage - the name is still recorded.

Hello Henry Browne and Paul Knowles, I came across this post on Google while researching my great great grandmother Johanna Daly/Browne from Watling Street (forgive me if I'm posting in the wrong place I never use these forums)...
Paul I believe you know my mother Betty O'Neill (Daughter of Paddy and Esther)?
Henry I haven't figured out yet what relation we are as I have literally and frantically just signed up to all these websites when I found the post in Google only 30 mins ago :o
Hopefully you can both get back to me as I would love to share the info we have on our ancestry.
Regards,
Paul
