Looking for a marriage or any information on Edward Batha / Bather who was born 1862 in Llansilin. I believe I have him recorded on the 1891 census (RG12/4671) with a "wife" Mary (born 1863 Bangor) and also a son Edward Batha born 1889 Dwygyfylchi, Caernarvonshire (registered as Batha at Conway SEP Qtr 11B / 470) but no further record.

 Any help would be appreciated

Thanks Trish, I already have all 10 children of James and Mary and know info on 8 of them (my great nan was one of them)

There are only two that need researching, my other post indicates Catherine married as BATHAR in 1880 to one of two blokes, if nobody can help me I will order that MC just by entering her details

Edward Batha / Bather doesn't seen to have married before his son Edward was born and I cannot track him on GRO or after the 1891 census

				Hi

Another member (mjt960) is investigating the family. The information on this thread might be of interest and maybe avoid some duplication:

MJT960 is my 3rd cousin, I met him last Saturday after last seeing him about 50 years ago. I believe I have a lot more info on the Batha / Bather family.

MJT960's post centres around John Batha / Bather (> Barrett) who is a sibling of Catherine & Edward

I have a GRO for a Catherine BATHAR MC in 1880, so I will order that to add to the 600+ I already have.

Edward Batha / Bather is the problem
-
Yes he sure is as I am unable to find anything else on him as well!

-
Just been checking on emigration lists - nothing there  :-\

Have Mary and the son Edward been found or do they all disappear?
-
It is possible that he may have changed his surname just like his brother John and for the same reasons.

Edward / Mary and son Edward cannot be found on the 1901 census under Batha / Bather and I have done searches in England & Wales just using Christian names and year of birth with + / - 2 years but nothing stands out.

There is no trace of all three after the 1891 census
-
				Have you considered this death:

 Edward Bather aged 34, Jun q, 1896, Conway, vol 11b  p 355

				Thanks Gadget

No, seemed to have missed that. You may have found a winner with that DCR, and the correct age too. It could also mean that Mary remarried (or married a first time) after Edward Snr's death and also changed her son's surname upon remarriage. That's another DC to be ordered next week

I have now noticed a marriage at Conway in 1907 of an Edward Bather, could this be the son then aged 18 ?

I have to go out for a couple of hours now so will have a look when I return. that death is in the right area as son Edward was registered at Conway

 Many thanks

				In 1901 at Conway are;
 Mary Bather,born c 1865 Conway,Head
 Mary,daughter born c 1893 Conway
Ed son born c 1889 Conway
Hugh son born c 1891 Conway.
 RG13/5286/40/43.

Using the free index of the 1911, which we are  allowed to mention,  the family that William lists are in Conway, as Bartha

				This looks like Mary's death:

 Mary Bather, aged 70. March q, 1832, Conway, vol 11b, p 673

and it looks as if daughter Mary married a   Robert Jones, Dec q, 1913, Conway, vol 11b p 846

son Hugh J Barther  served  WW1 in the Welsh Guards and the Royal Welch Fusilliers - Reg Nos. 1439 and 222 (medal card only)

son Edward Barther served WW1 in the Bn RWF,  Reg No. 479 . I've found his service record (He was 5ft 4 1/2 ins and demobbed 2nd March 1919) Not sure if this was not  TA or not  :-\ His mother, Mary, is down as next of kin. He was a postman

Thanks very much all you guys and dolls for your assistance, the postman is of interest. I spent 30 years with the Post Office and my youngest daughter is a postwoman

Now I need to digest all this info and place into my extended tree
-
Further to quote offered by William Russell Jones for which I am very grateful

Edward Batha (1889) then becoming Bather actually died in 1941 registered at Conway as Edward BARTHER - age 52

Hugh is Hugh James Bather who married Catherine Bohane (no further trace of her) and Hugh's death was in 1949 - age 58 again registered at Conway as Hugh J. BARTHER

If Mary did marry Robert Jones I have found 7 provisional kids, yep you got it, more JONES' again, deep sigh

Why, or why, the change of names, it does make it difficult for us

 Thanks again for all contributions

I see there is a Catherine Bohane.  Do you know where she came from or have any idea of an approximate age as I have  missing Catherine Bohane. Thanks.

-
Any idea of a possible birth for your Catherine Bohane? The Hugh James Bather died in 1972,so I think it unlikely she would have remarried all things being equal!I can't find a death for Catherine though?

 William Russell Jones.
