On the 1911 Uk census my Great Great Grandmother as given her place of Birth as Askra co Galway. The problem i am having is where in Galway is it ?I have googled without much success Can anybody point me in the right directionas to where Askra is or was?

You can search the townland database at : www.thecore.com/seanruad ...
I dont see anything close to Askra. It might be worth double-checking the census form itself to see if it could be mis-transcribed ..

Closest I could find in Co. Galway was Esker (sereval listed on www.thecore.com/seanruad).

Could it be Ahascragh a small town in Galway.
Local pronunciation Ackra

Thank you for all your help.I spotted ahasgrag lodging with my GG Granmother were relatives who were from Askra as well? but one was from Ballinasloe which if I think is near ahasgrag if I am correct??

If you look at the following site, ahascragh records prior to 1900 are recorded in latin so christian/surname differ slightly. Joannes = John, Patricius = Patrick etc.
Type in "ahascragh, Galway" only in location field --no name or surname
