Hi
I am looking for any family history that may be available for the Timms family living at Barford St. Michael, Oxfordshire.
Our family goes back to Martin Timms b. 1620 Barford St. Michael.

I also have an interest in the Timms family, but from Wotton, Oxfordshire:-
Martha Timms married Giles Ibell, about 1808, she was born July 1786 to Samuel Timms and Elizabeth Blackford in Wotton.
Samuel Timms born Wotton, Nov 1753, to Samuel Timms and his wife Catherine.
Is there any link to your Tims family?
regards, sgc

Our family has always been in Barford St. Michael since 1620.
We have in our tree a Martha Timms b. 1784 at Barford St. Michael. We have a Samuel Timms b. 1658 at Barford St. Michael who married Elizabeth b. 1660. Samuel was the son of Martin Timms b. 1620.
Do you mean Wootton, Oxfordshire?
There is a possibility of a family connection

Hi JanJim,
I guess I do mean Wootton, I just can't spell!
Martha says she was born in Wootton in her census return for 1851.
There is another interesting Timms connection that I have remembered, my ancestor, Emma Nicholls married Martha Timm's grandson Michael Ibell, but in the 1851 census she is a 15 year old servant living at Barford St John with a Susannah Tims, age 80, farmers widow, born Barford, and Susannah's unmarried daughter Sarah age 40 born Barford.

Hi sgc,
Yes I see Wootton now on the map, it is not that far away from Barford St. Michael
This is quite interesting, I do have some Parish records for the Timms family that may interest you, if you give me your contact email details via a personal message, I can send you through copies of this.
Also I have just been to England and visited Barford St. Michael, found quite a few graves for the Timms family, so will check them all out, I found a grave of William Thomas Timms and Susannah Timms, and one for Susanna Timms wife of John who died 12.1.1855 aged 83 years, so this
may be the Susanna you are referring to.
I'm thinking there must be a connection to your family somehow

Hi janjim
I've just made a connection to the Timms family of Barford, Oxon, so I thought I would drop you a message.
My John Gill married Priscilla 'Sill' Timms at St Peter, Brackley, Northants on 10 Nov 1745.
I believe this Priscilla (as the combination of names is unusual at the time) is most likely the Priscilla Timms chr. 9 Feb 1723 St Michael, Barford, daughter of Sam. & Ann.
They settled in John Gill's village of Wardington, Oxon and had a number of issue.
Do you have this marriage or can you place this priscilla in your tree?
Cheers for now, Bonza
-
Hi Bonza,
Yes, there is a connection. Priscilla would be an issue of Samuel Timms b. 1688 Barford St. Michael who married in 1713 to Ann Perkins b.1685. Samuel Timms was eldest child of Martin and Priscilla Timms who married in 1713.
I come down the line of Samuel Timms brother William Timms b. 1690 Barford St. Michael who married in 1723 to Elizabeth Lovedream.
I can give you more information if you require

Thanks for the Martin & Priscilla info Jan
How far back have you gone on the Timms family of Barford?
Send me a pm if you prefer.
Cheers for now, Neil

Hi Neil,
I only go back to Martin Timms b. 1620 Barford St. Michael who married a Judith in 1640. It seems Martin died in 1698.

On my family tree James Timms baptised 15th May 1768 Barford St Michael had a daughter Harriett Timms baptised 14th April 1818 Barford St Michael. She married a Joseph Page from South Newington. Joseph and Harriett married 11th February 1839 in Barford St Michael witnesses Thomas Page & Eliza Margetts.
If you would like anymore information as to the names and baptisms of James Timms children and Harriett and Josephs children let me know.
There is also on my tree an Edward Page of South Newington who married a Mary Timms born in Bloxham .The marriage was 28th May 1819 South Newington.
These people are all on my husbands side and there are connections to the Timms, the earliest I have found up to yet is a Thomas Timms born 1737 Copredy.

Hi,
Well the Timms family were quite a large family, obviously in Barford St. Michael, must be related. I can't see James Timms b. 15.5.1768 in our tree, but then I wonder who James Timms parents were. :-\
If you could provide me with further details on that please. There is a James b. 1741 Barford St. Michael in my tree, could that be your James father.

The father of your James born 1741 was William if I am correct. My James born 1768 was married to an Hannah, His parents a Thomas and Ann. There is a baptism for a Thomas 24th July 1748 in Barford St Michael with parents James and Elizabeth. I am guessing this could be Thomas the father of James 1768. People on Ancestry are having Thomas born 1734 but I have never come across that only a Richard 1734. Whether James (the father of Thomas b1748) was the one baptised 1730 parents Samuel and Ann I cannot say for sure as these people I haven't really checked on yet.
Confusing?

Hi again,
Yes, I agree parents of our James b. 1741 was William and Elizabeth.
I am not on Ancestry at the moment, and not able to check more on details, but certainly records I have, Martin & Priscilla had the following issue, Samuel b. 1688, William b. 1690 m. Elizabeth Lovedream, Thomas b. 1692 married Mary Penn, Charles b. 1694 m. Mary Meacock, Joseph b. 1697, Benjamin b. 1699, Sarah b. 1700 and James b. 1702 m. Elizabeth Hollier, all born at Barford St. Michael.
That's about all I can say for the moment

Hi Ann
Welcome to Roots Chat I just KNOW you will find so much help in here and it does get addictive so be warned!!
Now to general advice - I would really recommend you start a new post rather than add to one that is already running and as the case here it has been going on for a while and yet has not seen much activity of late.
You will then be able to watch and manage the information that is offered to you in a better way - unless of course you are certain the existing thread / post specifically relates to the issue/s you are seeking information / advice about.
I always think it is better to start afresh.
In regard to the information you are seeking there is simply loads available to you both on here and of course many many other sources. It is a little awkward to suggest some sources as they may appear to be teaching you to suck eggs or offend .. So always try and offer as much info as you can - without of course presenting your whole tree!!! - then be as specific as you can about what you are looking for and where you have tried already. But as you go on with your research the type and amount of info you share and tell us what you are looking for will also give us clues about your strengths and - don't be offended - weakness that will help 'us' help you.
Lots of us have access to Parish Records and other extremely useful information and can look up info for you any time you ask - that's the easy bit!.
As your research progresses you are going to have to end up buying certificates and because they become expensive we all try and avoid that but you will get to a point where you cannot do without them. They do also become invaluable with the amount of information they provide and it is nice to have them for closer members of the family.
T ra for Now
