Geo Hy Sinclair only exists in 2 records
1. 1881 Census
with Sarah (his wife) and several children only one of which is a Sinclair that is Alice Lucy 6 months old in the census
Jack Sinclair is really John Robert Huggins born Q1 1872 Shoreditch baptised 28/3/1873 St Augustines Haggerstone
David H Sinclair is really David Henry Bouchard born 5/11/1866 and baptised 9/12/1866
The baptisms are from the LMA
Sarah Wright was married 3x
1st to David Bouchard (spelt Bouschard on LMA) in 1860, he died 1867
2nd to John Huggins in 1869, he dies Q4 1874
3rd was George Henry Sinclair in 1869. 1880
George Sinclair is the mystery as he states he is born abt 1845 in Toxteth Park, Liverpool. There is no birth on FreeBMD.
Cannot see him in any other census other than 1881 and in 1891 Sarah has reverted back to her previous married name of Huggins (although A***Y has it as Huggan.
I have Sarah all the way to 1911 and she dies in 1918.
I also have another 2 children from her marriage to David Bouchard Sarah Jane who marries a LYE and Frances Annie Louisa who dies in 1864. The Mystery is finding out some more details concerning George Henry Sinclair, the other record is his marriage on the LMA to Sarah Huggins nee WRIGHT.

Hi Barry
2nd to John Huggins in 1869, he dies Q4 1874
3rd was George Henry Sinclair in 1869.
I think you might have the dates wrong here :D
Also, do you know where the marriage to George Henry Sinclair took place?
Linda

OK - the reference for the marriage is
Sarah Huggins & George Henry Sinclair
1880 Apr-May-Jun Bethnal Green Vol 1c p415
Do you have the marriage certificate, because this should show George's father's name?

Hello Barry
Perhaps you are already aware of the following but if not, even though the date and place of birth for George do not match the 1881 census, they may be worth further investigation:

Hi
On his marriage in 1880 at St Jude Bethnal Green 35 year old George Henry states he was a widower.
There is this earlier marriage as a possibility
27th February 1872 St James the Great, Bethnal Green
George Sinclair Full Age Bachelor Labourer 1 Abbey Place Robert Sinclair Deceased
Isabella Richards 18 Spinster 1 Abbey Place William Richards Deceased
Both signed
Witnesses William Richards and the mark of Hannah Richards
The two signatures on the two marriages have letters formed in a similar way but the later signature is written in a larger hand.
21st November 1880 St Mary, Haggerston born 26th September
Alice Lucy Synclair parents George and Sarah, 83 Great Cambridge Street, father's occupation carman

I suspect Valda that is his 1st marriage but I cannot find a death for Isabella in the right timeframe.
Ivanidea that looks good but he is off full age in 1872 and born 1845 in 1881. The rest looks fine tho.

The Arnold family lived at 1 Abbey Place, Bethnal Green.
A death of a Isabella Sinclair (aged 24) in the Sep qtr of 1878 Camberwell.....right age and just across the river but is she the right one?

Following on................something is not right about our George but what is it?
A death of a Isabella Sinclair (aged 24) in the Sep qtr of 1878 Camberwell.....right age and just across the river but is she the right one?
This appears to be Isabella in 1861 with the two siblings who were witnesses at her marriage in 1872?

1871
The Richards family appear to have lost the father and are not the easiest to find with any conviction
Alice aged 11 appears to be visiting in Islington, Isabella aged 16 may be the one working as a domestic servant in St Marys Islington? by this time one would have thought that Isabella must have met George as they marry in Feb 1872, but why get married in Bethnal Green, who lives there?
1891 census
Sarah reverts back to the name Huggins even though one of the two children living with her has a surname of Sinclair, the other Jack (John's are often called Jack) was born Huggins...but why revert? is it because she divorced George Henry Sinclair?

If the family that Ivan found is the correct one albeit George's age is 10 years out and they are a Northumberland family in 1851/1861! .........However everthing else fits ie his father was named Robert and he was a waterman and he died (1868) prior to George's marriage in 1872
The info from the 1881 census states he was 36 but there is no birth for George in Toxteth (Liverpool R.D) in the period.......but there is a birth of a George Sinclair in the Sep qtr of 1855 within the Liverpool R.D (Toxteth)

Children of Robert & Mary Ann Sinclair (IGI's)
Mary Sinclair c. 13th Oct 1840...All Saints, Newcastle Upon Tyne
Elizabeth c. 31st Jan 1844... All Saints
Hannah c. 10th Oct 1847...All Saints
------
Robert's wife Mary Ann may have died in between the census of 1851 and 1861 as there are two marriages of a Robert Sinclair at All Saints, Newcastle Upon Tyne...1855 to Eleanor (found in 1861 with husband & 3 children) & 1857 to Ann Colguhoun
1868
The father Robert Sinclair died within the district of Newcastle T aged 56
The daughter Hannah Sinclair appears to marry Thomas Rowley in 1870 (Newcastle T) and she may well have died in 1881 aged 34 (Mar qtr, Tynemouth R.D) but where is she in 1871? just in case George is with her.....however if this is the correct George he would be younger than Isabella when he married her in 1872 and she was 18.

I have no idea why sarah reverted to Huggins but revert she did. Alice was born a Sinclair but even she marries as a Huggins. I am wondering whether George being previously married (he said he was a widower) was found out that he wasn't i.e Isabella wasnt dead and the marriage was annulled which is why Sarah reverts back to Huggins.

Marriage by banns
He may simply have deserted the family. Marriages failed and since divorce was beyond the financial reach of most families until after the First World War and free legal aid, new relationships were established and in some cases bigamy was committed. It wasn't rare by any means, so that alone wouldn't necessarily be any reason, if this was the case, for this marriage to fail.
Is Sarah's death registered as Huggins or Sinclair?
