Title: Boyce Bible - Victoria Somewhere!?
Post by: MarkGrealy on Monday 21 June 10 02:00 BST (UK)
Hello all,

My Ancestors, the Boyces, had a bible they brought out from Ireland to Victoria in the 1800's. It records a number of birth, deaths marriages and who knows what else. I have a few photocopis that my Grandfather got his hands on years ago, but i would love to find the actual Bible in order to scan and preserve it's contents. From what I've gathered, the Bible was passed down throught the daughters, and their daughters, so tracking it has become an issue.

I think it is in the Wangaratta area of Victoria, but I'm not sure...if anyone knows of this Bible or if anyone HAS this Bible, please get in contact with me.

Cheers

Mark Grealy

G-G-G Grandson of George Boyce, born Tipperary ~1828, died Wangaratta 1909.

Hi Mark
I live in Beechworth near Wangaratta.
If you have some names of the girls I could do some tracing for you. Otherwise you could put a letter into the local papers
The Wangaratta Chronicle and The Border Mail { covers NE Victoria and Southern NSW}.
Regards
Alison

Wangaratta Family History Society might be worth a try too.

Look at the most recent entries on the photocopies your grandfather had. These might help you pinpoint which line of your family might have the bible. (I have a bible from 1870's, and you can see who has held the bible, by the entries that were written in).
Depending on dates, you could then go to the Ryerson index  and possibly look at electoral rolls (available in their offices, on computer) to try and track down relatives.
This is presuming you have not been able to make contact with all lines of the family.

Out of interest - what are the most recent entries?

Katharine.

Hi Mark

Just came across this which I think you would have already seen but thought I'd pass it on ...................  There is an email link for this page but it was last updated a couple of years ago.

Plenty of daughters to choose from!

Good luck with it.  Judith

You have probably also seen the digitised will and probate papers of George Boyce which also list his children and the names of the children of his eldest son.  One of the executors of the will is his son-in-law John O'Donoghue, farmer of Brown Plains near Rutherglen - just means you may have a slightly wider search.
