Title: Christening
Post by: Bigclick on Sunday 20 June 10 20:25 BST (UK)
Would anyone be able to help with a Christening record.

The Church records are from Surbiton Surrey the name is Harry Lane. It took place on the 6th May 1875

I have some information from familysearch.org but would like more detailed information if its available?

Cheers

Full IGI entry as follows

HARRY LANE   Birth:  18 NOV 1869   Christening:  06 MAY 1875   Surbiton Surrey,
Father:  JOHN LANE   Mother:  ELIZA

The most additional info you may get from the record is their address at that time and John's occupation

Do you already have 1871 details for the family - Harry was aged 2 at that time and his fathers occupation was "oil and colourman"?

Hi

It took place at St Marks Surbiton and the only other information is that father was, as Carole said, an oilman.

Do you need info on the baptisms of his 6 siblings?

I was barking up the wrong tree there folks, but I have now found the correct Baptism. He was baptised with his grandparents recorded as the mother / father. was this a general practice for iligitimate family members?

correct baptism was 2nd Jan 1876 at Hampstead Holly Trinity Middllesex

That entry was for Harry CHARLES Lane parents shown as John (occ coachman) & Sarah Deborah

The 1881 has an entry for a Harry Charles Lane aged 6 living as a boarder in St Pancras but he is shown as b Worcestershire

I think I may have been a bit excited and didn't check my facts :-(

Harry's grand parents were John and Sarah but they lived in Hampshire and he was a corn miller not a coachman (boo Hoo)

thanks for the information

Hi

Are we talking about this entry for 1891?

RG12/939/59/26  Bishopstoke Hampshire

John Lane 68  Corn miller
Sarah Lane 70
Harry Lane 17  grandson                  London
Percy J Barker 6

Have you seen the 1881 entry for the family

John Lane 58
Sarah Lane 60
John Lane 20
HENRY SIMMONDS 6       London Middlesex

Harry is another name for Henry - so was Harry actually born Henry Simmonds and took his grandparent's surname? I have had this happen in my family.

I have seen that and I have always thought that Henry Simmonds was Harry Lane.
There is alo a family legend that Harry was Eliza Lanes son the illegitmate son  of well to do person who employed Eliza Lane

It was the middlesex connection that made me think I had found the right christening

Back to trail I suppose, thanks again
