Hi,
I'm new to this site and this is my first post.
I'm trying to find information on Marriage and Birth details for Alexander Ross born at Kilmuir Isle of Skye around 1811. I believe that his parents were John Ross and Margaret McDonald. Alexander married Frora McDonald the daughter of a Chelsea Pensioner Donald McDonald and Emily Stuart.
Alexander 40 his wife Flora 35 and 4 children Mary 17, John 15, Ann 13, Donald 4 and Margaret 1 emmigrated to Australia on the Ontario in 1852 but sadly Alexander died on the voyage and his son John died in Quarantine in Sydney.
Any birth, marriage or family information would be very helpful.
Regards Gerry

Pam,
Thanks again, the 1841 census makes things a bit confusing but it only represents who is living where at a particular night so people could be staying over, visiting or working away etc and with big families olnly adds to the confusion. But the 1851 census looks good for my Ross family.
I found some information on another site where a person indicated that John Ross & Margaret McDonald had 10 children including Alexander, moreover.
Ronald Ross 1809
Alexander Ross 1811
Donald Ross 1816
Hugh Ross 1821
Flora Ross 1822
Christy Ross 1824
John Ross 1826 immigrated to Victoria in 1855
Katherine Ross 1831 (catherine) went with John & family to Victoria in 1855
Mary Ross 1831
NK Ross 1841
With regards to the Pearsall my wife is related to a Samuel Pearsall whom was a life convict coming out to NSW on the Albion in 1827, he was born around 1805 probably in Birmingham because I have some information although not confirmed that his father Thomas Pearsall married Ann Thompson in 1803 at St Martins Birmingham Warwickshire.
Samuel went on to marry Isabella Maria Perks at Yass NSW on Dec23 1848. Isabella was the daughter of convicts.

Hi Gerry,
I am the great grand daughter of Donald Ross, and with my 2nd cousin we have done a large amount of the family history... can I ask you connection.
Stacia
-
Hi Stacia,
Thanks for the reply.
My connection is through my wife who's mother was a McQueen and it was Neil McQueen who came out on the Midlothian from Skye in 1837 married a Margaret Ross in 1874 at Dungog NSW.
Regards
Gerry

Thanks Gerry,
Margaret was Donald's sister, and if our records are correct she and Neil had 9 children,Christine, Alexander, Flora, Archibald, William, Janet, Margaret, Graham & Donald.
Does this agree with your records?

Gerry & Stacia... have either of you purchased the relevant Scotland Census originals? Or are you relying on the transcripts? I'm not sure if they give any further information, as I don't have the originals either.
Stacia, I'm a descendant of Alexander's brother, John Ross, who married Flora Nicholson & immigrated to Victoria aboard the "New Zealander".
