Title: SA BD&M help please
Post by: elsie ellen on Saturday 19 June 10 03:53 BST (UK)
In the death notice in the Advertiser in 1904 for Ellen QUIRKE is listed three daughter's married names. I would welcome help to identify these daughters and to have their marriage details please.

Mrs O. WYLEY
Mrs R KENNEDY
Mrs A WALLACE

Parents names were Timothy QUIRK(E) and Ellen (Bridget) O'DONOHUE
They lived in the Hammond District of South Australia around Mallala and Pinda from what I have been able to ascertain so far in my research.

If any names of children from these marriages are available I would appreciate that information as well please.

Thanks

Elsie

Merlin and Sashar...thank you both for helping me to identify the Quirk brides!  :)

If it's not too much to ask would it be possible to also check for possible marriages for their three brothers:

J. Quirke
T. Quirke
D. Quirke

Would have been great if they had included first names in the notice, but this little information is better than none!

Sashar...I believe that she would be the only child as from a death notice in the Advertiser Johanna passed away at the age of 27 on the 1st October 1893. Obviously from the information you have just given me, the cause of death must have been related to the birth of her daughter. How sad.

Hi Sashar!

It is quite probable that this is the Thomas I was referring to. Age fits and around those years other family members were living in Blinman and Wilmington, which are in the vicinity, give or take a few miles!

I wonder if Thomas did marry or at least have a child as there is this death:-

QUIRKE Delia, died aged 13months, 4.11.1890 at Blinman, resided Blinman, father Thomas.

I'll check for this child's birth and a marriage for Thomas - be a while, have to go out for a bit.

From the siblings of Percival the only 1 that I can find that married is:-

QUIRKE John William aged 31, single, married 12.9.1931 at St Laurence Church, Nth Adelaide,  Irene Nellie O'BRIEN, aged 23, single.
Grooms father:  John Quirke.     Brides father:  David O'brien.
Birth records finish 1928 so I can't give any children to this couple.

Deaths:-
Eileen Hillam died just 6 months old, 3.1.1898 at Adelaide.
Masie Mary died aged 9, on 9.8.1905 at Nth Adelaide (father John, so is probably Mary b. 1896).

That is all the deaths I could find up until 1915 - I don't have the death CD up until 1972.

Hi Elsie

The Thomas Quirk of Blinman (mentioned in previous posts), son of Timothy Quirk, is listed in the Port Augusta Hospital Index as being from Hammond, but a laborer of Blinman, when he died at the Pt Augusta Hospital 4th or 5th (it says 5th) November 1890, having been admitted on 31 October. Delia/Adelia, his daughter, aged 13 months, died in Blinman on 4 November (as noted in an earlier post). The hospital index also has the mother, Elizabeth Quirk, age 26, admitted on the 6 November with bronchitis; also Catherine Quirk, age 5, her daughter, on 6 November with whooping cough; also Ellen Quirk, age 3, daughter of same, on 6 November with whooping cough.

Other mentions of the Quirks (from my research at State Records SA): A man by the name of Quirke applied (through an agent) for a permit to strip wattle bark on the Wilpena Run in 1886; the letter hasn't survived - only the index entry. And a T Quirke applied in May 1888 for a permit for an Accommodation House at Perawillia Gap (NE of Hawker). And a T Quirke applied on 31 October 1888 for permission to remove the Wilpena Eating House to land he leased in the Hundred of Carr (ie in or near Blinman). Wilpena lessee, HS Price, objected in November 1888 to T Quirke removing the Eating House from near Wilpena Homestead.
