I am a descenant of Thomas Townsend b.1825 Newnham Murren (he was my GG Grandfather). I would be interested to hear from anyone who has any information about his family. I am new to the site, so please bear with me.
Thomas' Mother was Jane. Thomas went on to have children with Mary Stiggants (Stigant/Stegant) b1837 Fareham.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Sandykt,
Just been looking at your request; Newnham Murren is in Oxfordshire and you may have more success
if you post on that board as its just outside the old Berks border.
I have looked in both Crowmarsh & Mongewell parishes either side of NM but no luck in them.

Jane Townsend states she was born c 1787, Chislehurst, Kent in the 1851 Census.
So the Marriage to unknown Townsend would be about 1810/1820 and possibly in Kent.
Do you have Thomas's Marriage Cert?
If so what is the info on his Father on it?
Trish :)

Hi there,
I am researching a John Townsend, son of William, who was born 1822-24, place uncertain, and served in the British Army (1842-1863) before marrying, leaving the army and living in Co. Laois Ireland.
Today I found a William Townsend b 1780 Newnham near Wallingford, Berkshire/Oxford who served 15 years with the Royal Scots (Lothian Regiment)- 1st Foot and was discharged in 1818 to the Kilmainham Army Pensioners Hospital in Dublin.
On his discharge notes, it says he enlisted in 1803; it doesn't mention any wife or children, nor is it clear how long he remained in Ireland. Is this your William Townsend or could there possibly be another born Newnham Murren in 1780? Have you heard of an Army or Irish connection before?
I'm searching, on behalf of my Irish-born Townsend husband who has several generations of Irish born Townsends serving in the British army but we're trying to find the birthplace/date of both John and his father William.
Hope someone can clear up the mystery.

Hi Kate,
Welcome to RootsChat :)
Is your John Townsend related to Thomas Townsend at the top of the board ?
Regards
Sarah :)

Hi Sarah,
Well, John would be Thomas's brother if indeed they are the same branch. I'm trying to establish if John is the son of your William b 1780 at Newnham Murren and, ie, brother of Thomas and all those other siblings.
Cheers,
Kate
