Title: Mullingar, Rochfortbridge: GAY, FLOOD, KEEFE, ENNIS
Post by: kg0279 on Wednesday 16 June 10 14:14 BST (UK)
Hi.
I am looking for anyone who may have connection to the following families: (brief details)

GAY: Baltrasna, just outside of Mullingar. John Gay m. Anne Cormack, son William m. Mary Flood, son Thomas died WW1 1917. Other members in 1901: Joseph, Patrick, Delia (possibly m. James Carroll) , John, Lizzie, Mary K, Frederick, Peter

FLOOD: Gibbonstown, Rochfortbridge. John Flood m. Catherine Keefe. Mary m. William Gay, Lawrence emigrated New York, Joseph emigrated Chicago with brother Michael, Thomas and John remained Rochfortbridge.

KEEFE: Catherine m. John Flood (blacksmith), brother Matthew emigrated St. Louis.  Possibly another sister Mary.

ENNIS:  Richard Ennis emigrated with Joseph & Michael Flood, all listing Matthew Keefe as 'uncle' making them cousins. Richard next of kin listed as James. Richard stayed with Matthew Keefe in St. Louis. Possible parents Richard & Mary of either Delvin or Hightown.

Many thanks for any possible connections.  I have 1901, 1911 census records (some need confirmation of identity) and also emigration records/US census.

My Floods are from Mullingar, but I have been having a terrible time tracing them there.  I think they may be from Knockatee, but I am not 100% certain.  They are my g-grandfather Andrew Joseph, his brothers Nicholas Joseph and Thomas.  These three came to NYC in the late 1800's, so there may have been other siblings still in Ireland.  They are the children of Luke Flood and Margaret Gavigan.  My g-grandfather Andrew Joseph married Annie Bracken of Mullingar.  Nicholas Joseph married Catherine Corrigan of Knockatee Mullingar.  There are Floods living next to the Corrigans in Knockatee, but I am uncertain if they are my Floods.

Thanks for the reply.  Unfortunately none of the information ties up to mine (yet) but I will keep looking and see where it leads and get back to you if I can make a match.

On another note I see you have McCormick in your research names - my great grandmother was Anne Cormack - variously spelled Cormick and McCormick, she married John Gay, so I'll keep an eye out for that one too.

Regards

Kevin

Just an FYI, my gg-grandmother is Margaret McCormick of Westmeath.  She married Jack Bracken and they had my g-grandmother Annie Bracken who married Andrew Joseph Flood.  I did note on marriage/baptismal certificates of the Floods that there are sponsors with the last name McCormick and McCormack.  Whether they are related and the names spelled wrong, I have not figured out yet.
