My mum was adopted at birth in 1953 and i've recently found out her real name and her mums name, when I search for her mums name in birth, marriages and deaths there are no records of her, what i'm wondering is that is there a chance her real mother could of come from Ireland and she came over to England to have her then returned home afterwards. (why I think Ireland is because of the name Sheilagh) Was this a done thing back in the 50's? And if i'm right how do I find out? I'm really stuck and i've hit a dead end would be very grateful if anyone could help me.
Many thanks
Mandy

Hi Mandy, welcome to RC. :D
I think your query might be a bit difficult here, RC has rules about posting information on living, or possibly living, people.
Your theory is sound though, maybe if you post on the Ireland Board with just the family name of your grandmother, someone might be able to help.
Also, you might get results from one of the adoption agencies.
Not being in England myself, I can't help you there, but I'm sure somebody here can steer you in the right direction.
Leonie.

Hiya Mandy and a warm welcome to Rootschat...unfortunately Rootschat has a policy of not printing living peoples names...so to alleviate this problem, you will have to post 3 times and then you could send me a PM and we will see what we can come up with.
Because of Internet Fraud , it is easy to find someones identity if you have their birth date and full name, so make sure you don`t post your mums real name and details...so...if you answer to this post , I will reply , and after the next and 3rd post you make , we can exchange PM`s ( Personal Message )..It seems long winded I know , but it is for security reasons.....allan :)

We can't give you an answer because of Rootschat policy regarding living, or possibly living, people but you can search the Irish civil registrations index yourself and see if you can find the name you are looking for. It's online and free (goes up to 1958 which should cover dates you'd need)-
