Can anyone help me, please? :)
I am looking for some addresses, on the 1891 census, in Cardiff.
(I am using Ancestry.co.uk)
I have found numbers 10 and 15 Herbert Street, but cannot find 20 and 23.
I am wondering if it is possible to do an address search, rather than a person search, because our name (Svombo) is often misread and mistranscribed?
Thank you. :)

Hello
If you're looking for George, Elizabeth, and Annie, their name is Swambo in 1891 Cardiff according to FindMyPast.
Annie Svombo was in Holborn (St James Clerkenwell)

Hi morganllan. Thanks for the reply. :)
I am looking for Emily, George and Stimati (aka Matthew)
I have Stimati / Matthew at 20 Herbert Street in 1890 and I have George at 23 Herbert St in 1889.
I have found Anthony at 15 Herbert Street and also relatives named Neagle at 10 Herbert Street.
I have found other family members in Clerkenwell, Pontypridd and elsewhere in Cardiff ~ eg Craddock Street and Queen Street.
I tried checking the enumeration districts, but still couldn't find the rest of Herbert Street. Even if they are not there, it would be interesting to see who is.
Edit:
I wrote 20 Herbert St by mistake for some Neagle relatives ~ it should have been '10'. Sorry!

you can search by address on FindMyPast. Herbert Street numbers 1-15 a are in St Mary's parish, 2-16 are in Canton. No higher numbers coming up.
All the street is in St Mary's in 1901.

Hello Osprey.
Thank you for your help.
That is both illuminating and bewildering.
I wonder where those numbers in the 20s are then. ???
Perhaps they have been lost. ::)
That explains why I found numbers 10 & 15, but not 20 or 23.
Thanks, Osprey, for trying! :)

missing, mistrancscribed, misindexed? Who knows? I wonder if anyone on the boards has the 1891 on disc and could have a look? Or possibly ask the archives?

I've written to the record office ~ good idea! :)

I am not sure if this might help...or not. ???
I have a 1914 disc and although the names you mentioned are not on it I did find.
21 Herbert street, North Road.

Thanks Amber.
It just seems to be 1891 then :(

Hi, your request caught my eye. My great great grandfather ran the Dock Tavern at 29 Herbert Street for many many years ( Edwin Robinson). Does anyone know if any photographs of The Dock Tavern still exist, was any historical research done before the dock development? Although you can walk down the street map it's not clear if any of the old properties remain at all or whether the whole area was completely demolished..

Not sure it is any help but Herbert Street runs off Parkfield Place (which is off North Road). Many of the original houses (if not all) have been demolished and replaced but it is worth looking at:-

If you type in coordinates 317291 and 178215 and click on the 1920 Pre WW2 1:2500 Glamorganshire map it will show what was there at the time.

Renu,
I don't know if you already have this info on your relative who ran the Dock Tavern?

I can't post the PDF file on here, (too big) but if you follow the Link you can read the Article.
