I am interested in finding out if there was a nursing home in Viewfield Road in the 1890s.
Help appreciated.

Viewfield Road is listed on the Alan Godfrey 1901 map of Arbroath (South). The "Infirmary" is named over its circular entrance road. The building next to the Infirmary has "Hospital (Infectious diseases)" written by it.
Viewfield isn't named on the National Library of Scotland map for Arbroath of 1859, but it's the the road to the north on the map section XLVI.15.12. "Arbroath Infirmary" is there, but the building next to it is just called "Rosebrae".

Thank you for this, very interesting. I am not sure if the 'Infirmary' would be what I am looking for - which is a house named 'Caer-cadun' (or something like that, the birth certificate it comes from is not very clear); it could even be a private house, where this birth was recorded, or perhaps a private nursing home, but would a town 'infirmary' have a name like that? I am not sure. However, every little helps to build up the picture of the area around 1900 - the event I am interested in dates to 1897.
Thanks for your help.

hi,
checked all the older houses, but none with names still remaining have that name.
afaicr the infirmary at the bottom of the road started life as a private house, but i'm not fully sure of its history, i'll see what i can find.

Thanks, Gordon... I guess people may have wanted to change the name in the past 115 years! The name I gave you was used in 1897.
I did wonder if the Infirmary might have had some connection, as a birth could well have taken place in a maternity wing.
Thanks for trying to help, anyway.
