It is quite tricky getting SA BMD information, and you usually need to go through the National Automative Archival Information Retrieval System (NAAIRS) (just Google it!). I takes ages, I'm afraid.
My partner's family live in Benoni, so if you do get a street, then I could arrange for a photo to be taken.

When you say that it takes ages to obtain a death notice from South Africa. What sort of time scale is 'ages'?
I sent for a death notice by email to the Durban offices on 19 June how much longer do you think that I will have to wait?
This is my first foray into South African genealogy.

I have heard it can be 3 months at least, I'm afraid... :-\

Hi I found a document in this archive when I typed in the name. I saw in one of them. Try this link. http://www.national.archsrch.gov.za/sm300cv/smws/sm200gi.
Then click on the RSA repository box, when it opens type in Palk and enter. A list of documents will appear, just click on Result Summary and then click on each and you will see what info each one contains.
The Genealogical Society of South Africa has a "pay to use" service which will enable you to obtain pictures of documents held in the National Archives.
Go to http://www.eggsa.org and select Content --> On Line Shop --> order Archive documents. Once you have selected the currency, select "Enter the Shop" and then select "Archive photos" (in yellow on the blue band) and follow the instructions.
Much quicker than trying to get the Archives to reply to your e-mail requests!! Good luck Derek.

I am looking for information on Dr Elmer John Dickinson who died in Pietermaritzburg in 1924.He was buried in the Church of England Cemetery.

I have found the following estate on the National archive site
DEPOT NAB
SOURCE MSCE
TYPE LEER
VOLUME_NO 0
SYSTEM 01
REFERENCE 8989/1924
PART 1
DESCRIPTION DICKINSON, ELMER JOHN. (S/S EDITH FRANCES, BORN WRIGHT-LAMBERT).
STARTING 1924
ENDING 1925
To obtain a copy of the death notice and/or will I suggest that you order it through eggsa.org as this will be quicker than doing it through the archives.
