Please could anyone help me confirm the marriage between Mary Caitlin and William Gray. The date I have from family search is 26/4/1744 in Grantham Lincolnshire.
Also if at all possible I would like to know the names of any children they had. At the moment I have only George Gray b 1749 in Grantham.
Thank you very much for your help

Hi Jane :) I thought your lot were from Winteringham.
My index has the name as CATLIN, otherwise the same.
FreeReg has a bit more info http://freereg.rootsweb.com/cgi/SearchResults.pl?RecordType=Marriages&RecordID=1524544

Hi Geoff
Thank you for your help
Yes some of my family were from Winteringham, Winterton and surrounding areas. However on a rare visit to Lincolnshire I managed to get back a little further and found out that they originally came from Grantham area.
Thanks again for your help

Hi Geoff
I have just had a look at the website you gave me and it said she came from Manthorpe. As you know the area well is that near Gonerby or little Gonerby as I have seen something which connects the family to this area.
Thanks

Hi Jane,
The village of Manthorpe is a village on the Grantham-Lincoln Road and is situated between Grantham Hospital and Belton House it is more or less joined onto Grantham now with all the houses being built around.
I can check in Grantham library tomorrow on the Manthorpe parish registers and see what I can find.

I should have said, Little Gonerby was part of Manthorpe parish http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/LIN/Manthorpe/
Kathy will look after you well anyway ;)

Thanks for your comments Geoff :) :)
Well Kathy, you're one of the few people on this board who looks at (copies of) real records :)

Hi Kathy
Thank you so much for giving up your time to help me. I can now add these new members of my family to my tree. I had seen Alice and Edward mentioned but could not prove they belonged to William and Mary. Thank you so much for doing this for me.

Hi Kathy
I have just noticed that George was baptised in December 1749 and Alice was baptised in Feb 1750. Does Alice belong to William and Mary??.
Sorry to bother you again.

Because of the way the calendar worked in those days (the year began 25th March), Feb 1750 is actually 14 months after Dec 1749. :)

Hi Geoff
Thanks for that information. I didn't know that. So I will add her to my tre.

To get the calendar exactly how they wanted it, they removed eleven days from the calendar in September 1752 which prompted riots in some quarters. http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m2279/is_n149/ai_17782422/
Nor were the financial authorities impressed, so instead of keeping the start of their year as Lady Day (25 March) it became 12 days later - 6 April. Of course, this is still the start of our tax year.

Thanks Geoff
That information is really interesting. I will take a look at that website and educate myself a bit more.
