Title: Braintree Hurrell French marriage look up please COMPLETED
Post by: SheWal on Thursday 10 June 10 11:51 BST (UK)
I have been told that James Hurrell married Mary Ann French in Braintree on 20 November 1859.  I have no proof of this.  Can anyone help?

Many thanks
Sheryl

Free BMD does not give the marriage of a James Hurrell in Braintree district, December Quarter, 1859, but it does give the marriage of a Mary Ann French under Volume Number 4a, Page Number 648. There are two males sharing this reference, JAMES EARLE or EARLES and SAMUEL SADLER. You would need to purchase the certificate to find out which one that Mary Ann French married and full details.

the only james hurrell marriage in essex in 1859 was regd at chelmsford in jul/aug/sept qtr
there are 3 males on the page and only 2 females neither of them are named mary ann french
so if mary french married in braintree then it was not to james hurrell
as robesur says you would need to get the cert of mary french to see whom she married.

Hurrell and Earle/Earles could sound alike though (with the right accent)

Just to narrow it down, on the 1861 Essex Census there is a Louisa Sadler (married) living with her parents in Braintree. They are the Cooper family.

Therefore Mary Ann French did marry James Earle/s.

Bear in mind all the silent H's in an Essex accent!

 ;)

Thank you everyone for your very helpful comments.  I'm going to send off for James Earle's and Mary Ann French's wedding certificate as I suspect that may well be the right one.

Thanks again!
