Hi Lee

I've just googled the film's name and there seems to be an American site called Let Me Watch This where you download the film for free. Check it out here:

http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:eLwFBmCiP_UJ:www.letmewatchthis.com/watch-41229-The-Romany+%22The+Romany%22+1923&cd=8&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=uk&client=safari

And let us know how you get on.

Best wishes
Sharon

Hi again

It would also be good to know your family names. Perhaps other people on this list may spot their ancestors in this film.

Best wishes
Sharon

Hi Rootbeer

That's a pity. It looked quite promising.

Question is, if the site really does hold the film, where did they get their copy from? It suggests that the film must be commercially available somewhere in a modern format: video or DVD.

I've got Boswell, Young and Shaw connections in the north so I'd be interested to hear if you manage to locate and view it.

Best wishes
Sharon

Hi, This is very strange :-)
I came accross this thread whilst searching the film 'The Romany'. I have been (unsuccesfully) looking for it for a couple of years for the same reason as you. My ancstors were meant to be part of the cast.  One of my uncles was named after Victor McLaglen because of this.
Do you know where it was filmed? I had been told that it was in Ireland.

Hi,
I don't think it's the same person, 'My' Victor passed away a long time ago - He was only in his 20's.
See the Sctland thing throws a spanner in the works, I don't kow if my family travelled up there. I can ask an old family member though. I don't know if the stories are true about them appering in the film, But I have looked up some info on it and besides the name Victor, There are also 2 other names that are my family names that are cast members names in the film.

rootbeer asked about other Roma films. Well my nana was in one during the 60s if you go on utube and put in Poor Cow I think it is in part 4 just after the couple walk out from under a waterfall the scene jumps and you can see my nana telling fortunes. My family are the Price's from Wales and we are related to Herons. Lock, Loveridges, Burton, Holland, Lees, Evon, Mitchells, Stevensons, Sterigs/Stereos,
My nana was Katherine Price nee (Rafferty from Ireland)...

Also there is another excellent movie called Angelo My Love with most of the people in that being American Roma family, it;s excellent and romaness is used often in the film

Another film is called Black Cat White Cat, this is made in Europe and is quite funny, they are I think Bulgaruin Roma the dialect is a littl different so I cannot make out every thing they say, but you can put english dialect to it if you have that feature on your tele.

I have not seen The Widow of Dolwyn  but I would love to see that I don't know if I am related to the Woods but I am sure somewhere down the line we must be.

I hope this info is useful

Have you looked at the International Film Data Base website? It's listed on there.  Don't know if you can download it from there or not, but maybe they will tell you where you can get it?

Hi There.

Purely by chance I happened to be googling my dad tonight and your post popped up.
yes I was was quite surprised as well, fates an amazing thing........oh sorry, you dont know who my dad is yet do you?

I'm Stephen Henson, my dad made the film you are looking for and you wont find a copy because they are almost impossible to get hold of.
It was all to do with the deals under which CFF films were made, reduced fees for crew and actors on the understanding that they would never be rescreened or shown on television.  Over the years the rights ownership has moved as companies merge or are bought over, the last time I investigated the rights were owned by Carlton International.

It was very difficult to track someone down to talk to, but eventually I was talking to the right person it appeared.  My dad made 3 films for the CFF when i was a boy, after proving who I was and handing over a not inconsiderable cheque they transferred copies to tape for me...............including Mauro!

This is not a site I will visit much, if you want to get in touch you can mail me on (*)

If you want my phone number mail me.

Regards
Stephen

To the moderator.

That seems a bit harsh, I have information that this member is looking for, joined the site simply to answer him and may never post again, please forward him/her my message.
