I recently discovered a chat re several Dawson Robinsons under 'Sago Armargh' file. However, I am interested in finding further information on my great great grandfather who was also DAWSON ROBINSON.
I live in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia which is where he died on 30 July, 1883.
The only facts I have are as follows:
He was born in Ireland, Co Armagh, circa 1815. His parents were BARTHOLOMEW ROBINSON (occupation 'farmer') and JANE nee DAWSON.
DAWSON married MARY nee WILSON in about 1834 in Ireland - Mary was born in Portadown about 1812, and died in Brisbane on 1 September 1890. Her parents were RICHARD WILSON ('farmer') and JANE nee LEATHEM.
Dawson and Mary's children were -
William bc 1835 (my great grandfather)
Joseph bc 1839
Dawson bc 1842
Lititia bc 1848
Martha bc 1850
John bc 1854
Mary bc 1857
I am quite certain that all of the above children were born in Ireland, as Dawson and Mary arrived in Australia in 1863. With them came my great grandfather WILLIAM and his wife, MARY JANE nee CAIRNS. I believe their first child, Wanata, was born on the journey to Australia. I have heard family stories that Joseph and Lititia came to Australia, but have no knowledge of the other children.
William and Mary's sixth child was MILDRED WENTWORTH ROBINSON, who was my grandmother.
She was born and died in Brisbane.
I would love to hear from someone who has more information about this part of my family tree.
Many thanks.
Traffy :)

A search of the pre 1840's Freeholders list for Ireland shows two entries for a Bartholomew Robinson (most likely relating to the one person) in Armagh:

You may already have details of the William Robinson to Mary Jane Cairns marriage, but if not, these were:
William Robinson, born 1837, married Mary Jane Cairns, born 1839, on 30 Jan 1862 at Knocknamuckly, County Armagh, his father being Dawson Robinson and her father being John Cairns.

Hello Scotmum
Have only just discovered your post - thank you so much for the info.
Do you know if Dawson Robinson's wife was a MARY WILSON, d/o RICHARD WILSON and JANE (nee LEATHAM/LATHAM)?
Thanks again. Cheers. Traffy

Traffy,
Your Dawson Robinson is too early for me but I can find a Dawson Robinson who married Anne Jane Lyness i Seagoe Church of Ireland, Lurgan, Co.Armagh. on 18 Jun 1857.
Also on 30 Aug 1904 Dawson Robinson Married Elizabeth Robinson in the same church.
Further a Dawson Robinson of Tamnificarbet, Co.Armagh, died on 17 Nov. 1893. Probate was granted to Hampton Robinson, Theological Student.

Thanks, Kingskerswell.
As far as I know, my Dawson Robinson (s/o Dawson b c 1815 and Mary nee Wilson) would have been born between 1842 and 1846 in Co Armagh. So he would have been between 17 and 21 years old when the family came to Australia in 1863.
I have not done any further research for him, and have those dates from his parents' Death Certificates.
Cheers Traffy
