Title: Griffin family stonesfield, Oxon
Post by: AnneMM on Monday 07 June 10 22:34 BST (UK)
Hi
I'm having difficulty finding my disappearing family. I am trying to trace a Alfred Griffin 1838 Stonesfield.

I have found him on the 1841 census with parents
Richard 1811 born Stonesfield
Sarah 1816 born Fawler, Oxon
& siblings: William 1833, James 1840 all born Stonesfield

Then in 1851 I found Richard and Sarah with William, Emily, Frances, James and Esau? No Alfred. Can't find him anywhere.

Then in 1861 I can't find any of them.

In 1871 I find Alfred with wife Sarah  1839 Westcott, Bucks and their children Eliza 1858 stonesfield, Henry, Fanny, Phillip, Richard, Emily & Alfred.

I would also love to know a marriage date for Sarah and Alfred and her maiden name.
Thanks any info would be gratefully received.
Anne

I assume from the lack of response that no-one else can find Arthur Griffin 1837 Stonesfield in 1851 & 1861 either.
Thank you to anyone who tried.

Ann
is it possible he joined the army and was posted overseas.
A contact of mine also has griffins of stonesfield and  one ended up in australia for a while and antoher seems to be in coldstream guards in 1861. It may be one reason why you cant find him.
many went to india and other other colonies too.

The 1861 census returns for the Woodstock sub-district, which includes Stonesfield, have been lost.
