Title: Christopher kinsella....Help wanted
Post by: johnKin on Monday 07 June 10 14:47 BST (UK)
Hi im new, I would firstly like to say hello to everybody.

Im looking for more information on Christopher Kinsella aged 64 (Census 1911) of Innismore terrace, Tenerue, Dublin
On looking at the marriage section on the household return form for he states married 44 years and his wife catherine says 22, I cant seem to find any marriage cert for them. Do you think its a typo.

On the 1901 census showed the family lived in Dorset street upper, Inns Quay, Dublin.

Also his son Christopher aged 31 (Census 1911) moved to fermoy and married Mary ?Barry?

I would like to find a birth or marriage record for either Christopher.

Any Help would be most welcome what ever its related to.

Kind regards

John.

John,
I think that Catherine may be his second wife as she states that she has had no children born alive so the son and daughter would have been by his first wife.

Thats what I though, whilst on the form he stated he had 10 children, 6 alive but it appeared to have been rubbed out.

If i could find a birth/Marriage record I could possibly find more data.

Thanks.

John,
Using the Record Search Pilot site of www.familysearch.org I found that Christopher Kinsella's marriage was registered in Fermoy Registration District between Apr and Jun 1907. Vol 4 Page 321. The same details come up for Mary Barry.

Thanks a lot.

Would there be a specific reason why i cant find details of both Christophers birth records. Once the census tells the ages it should be easy but I cant find either.

John,
Ages given then are unreliable, even among fairly well educated people. I still do not know if my grandfather was born in 1850 or 1855. I don't think they had much interest in birthdays in those days.
Another point for the older Christopher is that civil registration of births and deaths only started in Ireland in 1864. Protestant marriages and Registration office marriages started in 1845 and Catholic marriages in 1864. To find any earlier you have to depend on church records, some of which are starting to come on line. Unfortunately I am not familiar with the detail but I am sure someone else will let us know.

Again thanks.

I found a death record on the LDS site a Christopher Kinsella, Dublin South. Born 1848 - 1912 Aged 64.

I would say that is him but with no other data it sheds no new light.

He would of been married in 1867 and 1889 if the two marriages did occur.

John,
On that LDS pilot site there is a Christopher Kinsella born in Dublin on 18 Jul 1872 to Christopher Kinsella and Jane Malloy and there is a marriage for a Christopher Kinsella in Dublin South Jul-Sept 1890. I have no way of knowing if they are yours.

With regards to the marriage  in 1890 does it state any other information?

If the census of 1901 and 1911 were accurate the birth dates of both christophers would be

about 1879 for Chris jr and Chris snr 1848.

Chris snr first marriage would of been circa 1870, and second marriage to catherine circa 1889.

John,
No other useful information and remember to treat years given in census documents with a degree of suspicion.
