Title: Irene May McENTEE
Post by: bacall on Saturday 05 June 10 23:57 BST (UK)
I am helping a relative who is trying to find information on her grandmother Irene May McEntee born in South Australia (possibly Kadina) and died in Adelaide December 30th 1935.  She was 32 years old and a photograph developer.  She may have died in a private hospital on South Terrace, Adelaide, South Australia.

I do not have any other information.  This is my first post.  I am a new member.

Hi Bacall :)

Welcome to rootschat ;D

Starting with what we know and it appears that Irene's official status was single at her time of death.

Death
MCENTEE Irene May
30 Dec  1935   32 years  Status Single  No relative noted
Residence North Adelaide   Death place Adelaide   Ade  HX  576/5134
Cross Reference BARNES Irene May

BARNES Irene May
30 Dec 1935  32 years  Status Single  No relative noted
Residence North Adelaide   Death place Adelaide   Ade  HX  576/5134
Cross reference  McENTEE Irene May

I can't see a birth for an Irene May McENTEE in South Australia.  I would suggest purchasing a transcription of her death certificate which will give you the following information.

From the SA Resources board -

Death Certificate Information
1908-1947
    * Date and Place of Death
    * Name
    * Sex
    * Age
    * Occupation
    * Usual Residence
    * Birthplace
    * Length of Residence in Commonwealth
    * Age at Marriage
    * Number of Issue Living and Deceased
    * Cause of Death
    * Place of Death
    * Informant

Transcripts are available from
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,280572.msg1367795.html#msg1367795

I will mention that on occasion, I have waited simply ages for transcripts from SAGHS.

You could also try the following if you do not live in Metropolitan Adelaide - residents are required to do their own research at the Unley Library.

Free Transcriptions of Adelaide Registration District BMD Certificates
http://www.gravesecrets.net/adelaide-bdm-free-transcriptions.html

You need to make two more posts and then you can use the personal messaging [pm] system.  Click on the green icon on the left and under the username of the person to whom you wish to send a personal message. I have sent you a pm with some additional information.

Cheers

I originally came across Irene May McEntee's name in another post on this site when mariac was asking about Clarence McDonald.

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?PHPSESSID=230116e3868af64e47ab5d8fc75d75b9&topic=371468.msg2457346

This post would appear to refer to Irene's mother and father, 2 grandfathers and her siblings.

McENTEE Michael  22 years  Single  Father Thomas McENTEE
WHITFORD Marlan 20 years  Single  Father Elijah WHITFORD
19 Apr 1885
At the Sacred Heart Church Kadina    Dal 143/381

The person I am helping to find out about Irene McEntee (her grandmother) was unaware of the existance of her relatives.

Is there any information about the birthplace of the earlier generations?

Thank you very much.

Hi bacall

It would have been useful to have linked the thread you had previously found in your first post.  You actually had Irene May McENTEE's birth already.

This is obviously the birth to which you refer ....in Western Australia not Kadina.  Many South Australians left the mining areas eg Kadina etc and travelled to the mining areas of WA at the turn of the last century.  Many also went to Broken Hill.  My OH's forebears are amongst those that went from  Kadina to both areas.

Thank you so much for all the help - sorry about not including the original link - I am new at this and didn't think to do so!  The information is overwhelming as we had nothing previously.

Now that I have the name and year of birth of Irene, Ellen, Mary, William and Francis McEntee, I would like to know if and when they married and if they had children, and when they died.  We know that Irene had one child, but Irene did not marry.  I read that Ellen married (in the other link)

Marriage

McENTEE Ellen Veronica 25 years  Single Father Michael McENTEE

Would have to wonder WHY? Perhaps it is just Cando who will not be posting anything further here  ??? I hope the rest of us will continue to post.  ;D

Rootshat would prefer that UNLESS the information is of a sensitive nature or concerns possible living persons that it should ALWAYS be posted on the public board.  ;)

I can only suggest that if ANYBODY has ANYTHING (Which does not concern possible living persons or could be considered SENSITIVE) they should continue to post it here on this thread  (We have no idea what information has been passed on privately or if we may have found something which may not been passed on privately). Thank You.

Cheers Kris  :)

I am sure that a pm thank you and a request for another area research does not have to be posted on this board and there was no other person posting info from the SA records on the thread.

Kris have you considered that no more may be required on this line of enquiry?  Of course if you wish to continue with further research that may not be required,  that is your prerogative.

Next time I will not post when I have been thanked by pm and therefore not continuing to research further.

I always understood that words typed in upper case indicated shouting.

Sorry Cando, myself and others  could not "consider that that no more may be required on this line of enquiry", by what we have seen posted.  You posted a statement (You probably meant it was only your choice not to post anything further for whatever reasons, but others were understandably wondering)

Quote
Am in contact with bacall so no more will be posted here.

The statement
Quote
no more will be posted here
caused confusion. Other members wondered just what information had been sent privately and wished to know if this statement meant they should not post any further information to the thread  ???  RootsChat (as I am sure you are aware) is all about posting information to the public board wherever possible. It means others searching for ancestors via seach engines may find the information and in doing so make connections. There was no "I have sent such and such sensitive information privately. The original poster wants nothing further, and I have been thanked via PM"  :-\

Perhaps we all are missing something.  ???

My goodness what a fuss.  Kris please continue to research this family if that is your wish.

Perhaps you would like to pm me the names of all the

others [who] were understandably wondering)
I will contact each on individually with an apology for causing such overwhelming confusion.

Hi

I am currently researching Marlan McEntee (born around 1910) who was the sister of Irene McEntee. Your friend and my partner would be second cousins.

I don't know how far you got with the research, however I have some information on the family if you are still interested.

Marlan was one of 11 children. Her parents were Michael McEntee and Marlan McEntee (nee Whitford). The children were all born in SA, WA & NSW.

Bry
