Hi Alison,

You have his second name down as Isaac, where did that info come from as I have been unable to find a birth nor marriage for that name.

According to the next census he was born in Drayton Berks and he has been married to Mary for 17 years

Hey TU, you just beat me to this one..... ;D

I too have been searching for a birth for a George Isaac ALLEN that fits with the place and year that you have given us Alison, and been drawing a blank.

Perhaps if you could let us know how you made it back to this man, then maybe we can try and help sort it out for you... ;)

Cheers
Karenee

Hi thanks for your help. The name came from my friend,
george isaac Allen was his grand father. I can find a death for him recorded as   Name:    George  I Allen
Death:    Reading, Berkshire, England
Death:    Apr-May-Jun 1937.

He married Mary Ann Lacey in 1894 but i can find no record of this either.

This is a mystery, where was he previous to 1901???
Found him on the 1911 census too.

Again any help much appreciated.

Thanks
Alison.

Hi Alison

I am still not finding anything satisfactory here.  Can I please ask how your friend got back to this man....??  Perhaps if we start with his children and go back from there we might get somewhere??

Cheers

Hi Alison,

In the Drayton PRs (ex OFHS) is this entry;
Baptism;
14-3-1860  Isaac s/o Isaac & Jane Allen, Labr

I can find no other entries for Allen in Drayton.

Hi all,

I can't help with the Marcham PRs as the bapt. only go up to 1801, marrs to 1754 and burials to 1804.

Also they're not on the IGI.

Going back to earlier pages that seems to be the 66th (Berkshire) regiment. Can't see any military records for him on FindMyPast.

There's a George Allen working as a Butler  in 1891- born Cookham, Berkshire
age 30 single (quite old to still be single so he could have done that after the army?)

RG12/1592/108/27
Chippenham/Corsham

Address:
Hartham House, Pickwick, Corsham   County:
Chippenham, Wiltshire

George W  Lacey was born in  Cookham.

Wow thanks for all your help. The george W Lacey mentioned in the last post was George Isaac Allens adopted son, he was born out of wedlock to Georges wife Mary Lacy. I did find the census's you all mention, but If these are the correct ones george would of been listed using his middle name?

George Isaac Allen is the father of Sarah jane Allen born 1901 died 1975.

Sarah Jane is the mother of the friend i helping. So he is pretty certian on names, he does have George and Marys marriage certificate. To confirm. This man is a complete mystery to me.  I have contacted my friend again and asked for more info like did he know georges fathers name?

Once again thanks this is a great site, if any of you come up with anything else much appreciated.

have a good day

George's father's name and occupation from the marriage certificate would certainly help narrow down which george Allen he is from the earlier census as there are a few possibilities.  Also his occupation on marrige certificate, confirmation of age and the addresses they both gave.

Hi all,
Just noticed some references to Isaac Allen b.1860 in this thread. I don't think it helps with your hunt for George Allen but I think Isaac Allen most likely died in Egypt as per the the reference in the Jacksons Oxford Journal here.  http://www.mr.pentops.btinternet.co.uk/Tree/JS1828.htm
Hope this helps
