Title: Royal Hospital Chelsea
Post by: carol02 on Monday 31 May 10 16:13 BST (UK)
On the National Archives website I found Jacob Standley born Marton. 22 foot Regiment discharged age 41 1823. Soldiers Service Documents 97/425/25
Does anyone know whether I would be able to get anymore information about him?

Hi Carol

WO97/425/25 is the reference to the microfilm his record is on in Kew. Sometime in July Findmypast will be putting it online.

Hi Carol,
Just thought I would pop in with an anternative for you, to find the Army discharge papers of you Soldier..
July has almost ended and no sign of the WO97s for the early periods online yet..
If you use the facilities of the Latter Day Saints, you can hire in the Microfilm for which holds the Service papers of Joseph Standley and print off every page for minimal costs.
I got my ancestors papers this way...over 10 years ago.
The film you will need to hire is   FHL BRITISH Film No. 872380
vol. 425 22nd Rgmnt. of Foot: Smith-Young 1760-1854
Jacob's record is the 25th record on the reel.  i.e. WO97v.425/25
Make sure you print off every page, even if it looks like a checkout docket...this is how his physical description is written up....
Good Luck and Enjoy your find when you get it.. ;D
Cheers   Gay

I just thought I would let you know I now have Jacob Standley's Service Record, it gives  his discription and the  reason he was discharged in 1823, he was worn out having served 21 years in India. His rank was sergeant.

Thanks to everyone who helped me find it.
