My Father was Bertram Alfred Maylin who was born on 25th November 1922 and lived in the Romford Area at the time. His father was Leonard Arthur Maylin and his mothers maiden name was Lucy Chamberlain. As there is no evidence of a marriage Certificate it is assumed they both just shared the same name.
I know he had brothers and sisiters but have no details of them as I never met any of them. I need details of any of them that you may know. I believe he had 5 or 6 brothers and sisters.
Would appreciate any help. Thanks for reading this

Hi Len
I managed to find these birth Registrations (but Bertam's doesn't tally with yours I'm afraid). All with the mothers name of Chamberlain
Leonard A MAYLIN born Sept Qtr 1922 West Ham 4a 72
Bertram A MAYLIN born Mar Qtr 1924 Romford 4a 89
William E MAYLIN born Dec Qtr 1926 Romford 4a 816
Then on the 1901 Census we have what looks like Bertram's father, Leonard.
1901 Census
RG13/1600
25 Washington Avenue
East Ham
Essex
John OLIVER/Head/26/Contractors Carman/East Ham, Essex
Louise OLIVER/Wife/30/Tottenham, Middlesex
William MAYLIN/Stepson/11/Eash Finchley. Middlesex
Gilbert E MAYLIN/Stepson/8/East Finchley, Middlesex
Winifred M MAYLIN/Stepdaughter/7/East Finchley, Middlesex
Leonard A MAYLIN/Stepson/5/East Finchley, Middlesex
Elsie G OLIVER/Dau/5 moths/Manor Park, Essex
Emma WILLS Moth-in-Law/67/Charwoman/Kensington, Middlesex.
Which, if this is your Leonard, his mother Louise was widowed and she married John OLIVER. Also her maiden name was probably WILLS

Hi Len
Thought I'd give you some information about the family that you're looking for.
Mabel Joyce Maylin (nee Brewster) was born on 5/11/1922. She was not born in Romford. She had one brother called Michael. Can't remember her mother's name. I know she re-married after her first husband was killed in the war. Her second husband's name was Charlie and they lived in Newbury Park.
Bertram Alfred Maylin born 25/11/1923. Lived in - maybe born in Manor Park. He has one brother Len and 2 sisters Ellen and Daphne.
His mother Lucy Gorringe (nee??) had at least one sister also called Ellen

I would be interested if you find out that any of your relations were born in Orsett, Essex or thereabouts.
My single name is Malin and traced my family back to Orsett from my ggrandfather Henry Malin and then to John Maylin in 1816 (or possible 1818). John Maylin married Phoebe Harrod in 1845. Malin has been transcribed as Merlin, Maylen and Maylin at different times but seems to have been more consistent with Malin.
I have been curious as to whether there is anyone who can trace back to John Maylin and Phoebe Harrod but who kept the surname Maylin. To my knowledge John Maylin and Phoebe had the following children:
John, Joseph, Henry (my ggrandfather), Ellen, George and Sarah.
I would be interested to hear from anyone who thinks they may be related as I would like to be able to include any links in my family tree.

Hi Leonard
There are five researchers on GenesReunited with Bertram Maylin in their trees.
Leonard
Pauline
Valerie
Amanda
Robert
(Did wonder with the Leonard was you - but he has Bertram down as born 1923, Ley Street, Ilford)
and there are NINE with Leonard Arthur (1895 born Finchley)...........
If you're not a full member of GenesReunited (about £10 a year) it might be worth a subscription in order to contact these people. ;)

Hello Helen
Many thanks for quick response. I am in touch with a Valerie who is probably the same one and if so we have managed to find a link with our families.
I am a full member of GenesReunited but hadn't thought about any links to Maylin before (having always looked for Malin links). It was only when reading the posting on here that it occurred to me that earlier census information had recorded Maylin rather than Malin and thought there might be a connection. Alfred is a name that comes up a lot in my family as is Ellen, although I don't know of any Bertrams.
If you would like me to search anything on Ancestry.co.uk or GenesReunited, let me know.
I will check out the other names you gave me to see if there is any link.
Thanks
Eileen

Hello everybody,
I just fell upon this very out-of-date chat from a random google search so thought it worth posting my Maylin interests.
My great-aunt Julia GAY married Joseph Charles MAYLIN in West Ham in 1900. Joseph was the son of Elizabeth and Richard MAYLIN (C1828), and the grandson of Lucy and Joseph MAYLIN (c1801). I have found three surviving children so far Charles (1901), Consuelo(1903) and Doris (1907). Sadly little Robert Gay MAYLIN - who was clearly named after my great-great- grandfather - died soon after his birth in 1912.
My tree is on Genes Reunited.
