Hi Heather
Do you know what James' father's name was??
There is a Service Record for a James George STEPHEN father Robert..... could that be him??

Father's name is unknown.

Ahh...that makes it harder...
This man gives birthplace as Aberdeenshire so maybe not yours.
Will keep reading the file to see who he served with and where.

Okay, I can see your James on the 1901 Scottish Census. Also there is the James that I found in the service records so we can discount them sorry.
There is a medal roll card however for a James G STEPHEN who was with the Royal Highlanders and the Royal Fuseliers. The service numbers are 350691 and GS/129490.
Cheers
