Can some please lookup the 1841, 1851, 1861 census records for Eliza Roberts?
She married Samuel Shore in West Kirby, Cheshire in 1866 giving her father's name as Edward Roberts, a licensed victualler. 1881 census give birth as 1834 in Liverpool. So she may be the Elizabeth Roberts christened St Peter's, Liverpool 1835 (on IGI) - parents Edward & Margaret Roberts. Other possible siblings: John 1830, William 1829, James 1831, Ann Peacock 1832 (may be the Ann ROBERTS married to John PENDLETON and living with her widowed Mother Margaret ROBERTS aged 70 in Bebbington 1881), Martha 1837, Charlotte 1839, Nathaniel 1834
Additional Information: Pigot's Directory 1828/29 lists a publican named Edward Roberts in Spitalfiels, Liverpool . Also the Liverpool Poll Book of 1832 lists Edward as a victualler in Burlington St.
Thanks

Oh dear! here's the 1881 record which seemed to me to be a good match:
Samuel SHORE Head M 44 b Cheshire County Constable
Eliza SHORE Wife 47 b Liverpool Constable Wife
Sarah Eliza SHORE Daur 12 scholar b West Kirby, Cheshire
George Frederick SHORE son 11 scholar b West Kirby

Hi,
I did find this :-\:
Marriage: 24 Jul 1835 St Peter, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
Edward Marsden - Engineer of This Parish
Margaret Roberts - Spinster of This Parish
Witness: John Griffiths; Joseph Nicholson, (X)
Married by Licence by: Montague Hawtrey Curate
Mo
-
Do you think this might explain this - On IGI there is a Margaret with a second name of Roberts and a surname of Roberts. So on marriage her name would be Margaret Roberts Marsden. Here is the IGI record:
First names: Margaret Roberts Surname: Roberts
Christening: 22 MAY 1814 Llanddyfnan, Anglesey, Wales
Father: ROBERTS ROBERTS
Mother: ELIZABETH
Thanks to Suz & Mo

Edward doesn't give occupation as "Publican" as possibly Margaret ran the Inn while Edward worked -but it was not uncommon for a wife's occupation to be ignored!!!

Is there anything you've found on the 1841 census that places Eliza Roberts/Marsden living in the household of Edward & Margaret Roberts?
Also can you tell where Eliza was living in 1851 or 1861?

IGI has a Martha Roberts christened 05 AUG 1827 in Hope, Flintshire. Parents Edward & Maria. Looks like a match to the Edward & Maria who chr Eliza in St Peter's, Liverpool 1830. I also like that they have a Cheshire connection via Maria's birthplace.
Thanks again

I liked that one - but Edward's occupation was not quite right.
Do you have Eliza's marriage cert??
If so I wondered who the witnesses are??

The marriage record is on the Cheshire Parish Records Project database
http://www.csc.liv.ac.uk/~cprdb/ here it is
8661101
SAMUEL SHORE bachelor policeman of West Kirby (father George Shore, blacksmith)
married Eliza Roberts spinster of Grange by banns (father's name Edward Roberts, Licensed Victualler)
both signed. Witnesses were Solomon Hill and Mary Matthews
There are a couple William & Mary Roberts living in Neston (close to West Kirby). In 1881 Mary is a widow & a publican - so was William a publican in an earlier census? If so and I can establish a family link to Edward Roberts we might imagine that Edward of Maria moved to Neston to help in the pub. What do you think?
Best Wishes
David
