Title: Look up request: Robert STIBBS - Pilot

Can anyone help me trace my GGG grandfather Robert Stibbs. I have his daughter's (Sarah Anne Stibbs) wedding certificate from East Stonehouse district in Plymouth, dated 15th March 1859 when she was 23 and resident at 34 Chapel Street Plymouth, so I am guessing Robert Stibbs must have been born 1800-1815. Any trace of him on censuses or other records would be most welcome as I am drawing a blank.

do you have Sarah and spouse in the 1861 census so that her PoB can be seen?

who in fact did she marry ?  Heale or Yeo ?

and what was Roberts occupation shown as on the Marriage Lines ?

Thanks everyone for such quick replies. Sarah married John Channens Yeo, a Carpenter. Fathers Robert Stibbs shown as Pilot and Philip Yeo shown as Tailor.

Plymouth St Andrew baptisms show that a Sarah Ann STIBBS was baptised 2 Oct 1836, parents Robert & Sarah of New Street, father a mariner.  A William STIBBS and wife Mary, also of New Street were baptising in that time frame. The 1851 census shows that William was born ca 1805 in Plymouth and still living in New Street. In addition James STIBBS b. Plymouth 1811 and Richard STIBBS b. Plymouth 1811 are both living on New Street.
Robert STIBBS married Sarah HARVEY at Stoke Damerel 9 May 1830, so assume that his birth was around 1810 or earlier. He wasn't baptised at Stoke Damerel. (I have those baptisms).

Many thanks, I stumbled on a on old message on another forum during a web search that talked about William Stibbs and Sarah Williams married in East Stonehouse in 1799 or 1800 and having four sons, most or all of whom became pilots. Richard, William, Robert and James. William snr died in 1817 and received a pension from Trinity House. None of this though is corroborated. Although my Robert is shown on his daughters marriage cert as a pilot all the other records show him as a fishermen and after he died Sarah Ann is shown on the census as an owner of fishing sloops.

Thanks for all the help, any info on William Stibbs snr or Sarah Williams is much appreciated.

William STIBBS married Sarah WILLIAMS 6 Aug 1799 at East Stonehouse.

No, I am guessing Plymouth because that is where his alleged brothers were born according to the 1851 census.
James 40 Umn living at 38 New Street
Richard 40 Marr living at 38 New Street
William 46 Marr living at 37 New Street
Assume 1800 - 1810 as he married in 1830, and his possible parents were married in 1799. Baptism could have taken place at Plymouth St Andrew, Plymouth Charles, East Stonehouse, Pennycross, but not at Stoke Damerel as I have checked that parish.

You might want to try the Devon OPC scheme - free look-ups from parish registers. However, not every parish is covered over all years. Plymouth Charles is for the time period in which you are interested - see http://genuki.cs.ncl.ac.uk/DEV/Plymouth/Charles/ and scroll down to Genealogy for the links.
