Help. Our grandfather Arthur Leslie Frizzell was in WW2 Army Australia. He was supposed to have been in the English Navy in WW1. Story goes that the ship was torpedoed and he was in the sea for about 3 days. I cannot find any record.
His Australian record says that he was born 04 Jun 1895 at a place called Aldershot wherever that is ???
Anything found would be appreciated. ;D

I wonder if he lied about his age as there is this birth registration - Arthur Leslie Frizzell, 1900 Q2 District Farnham, Hampshire Volume 2a Page 143

Aldershot is in Hampshire. I'm unable to find any possible service history at the National Archives: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/navy.asp for Arthur Frizzell, but maybe someone else will point you in the right direction.

Same here, I cannot see anything in the National Archives. If he was born later than he said he would only just have been old enough nearer the end of the war I would have thought. I don't know what the minimum age was.

" He was supposed to have been in the English Navy in WW1." quote
Hi ,
I'm having real trouble finding a so-called English Navy in ww11 ::). I didn't think such a thing existed. Maybe I can find A welsh, or Scottish, or N Irish Navy too In WW2 - Just a suggestion, maybe It is called the British Navy!!
Kind regards

There is no such thing as the "English Navy" :) it is The Royal Navy

It is possible to search the database on place of birth and date of birth
There is an Arthur Leslie Cooper born Farnham who gave his date of birth as 2nd May 1895 (there is a birth registration for this man).
