Hi all, last week I bought this Bible, printed by Joseph Harrop in Manchester, just to read the writing inside the front cover !
Ann Lister, died 1798 aged 63, wife of Thos Lister of Salterhebble etc-----
Thos Lister,died 1820 aged 87, " " etc.
Lucy Lees ,died 1820 aged 57 wife of John Lees of " " etc.
John Lees ,died 1832 aged 76. etc
Thomas Lees,died 1832 aged 42.
Sarah Lees sister of the above John Lees died 1837 aged 72, interred in Raistrick Church in Joseph Hammertons Vault.
Joseph Lees, son of John Lees, died 1837 aged 45, interred at Halifax Parish Chrch in the family vault in the South aisle.
In some cases the time of death is written, these look as if they were a wealthy Yorkshire family and could have a great pedigree, I have a photo of the page but skill prevents posting.
Anyone else interested in this family??
Allen, Wiltshire UK.

Hi Allen. How fascinating.
Lets hope the super sleuths on here come to your aid and find living descendants of these people.
Have you done any searching for any of these folks yet?
-
Hi Ruskie, yes, having spent all last week on those names, I feel that they are notable Families and that John Lees is probably the Gent, in 1829 Pigots Directory at Salterhebble ,, and its possible that Thomas Lister was the first Lord Ribblesdale ??
However, I decided to post message for discussion, neglecting my own family tree for a while.
Allen.

God Bless you. I have been hard at work on my Lees family and could not figure out why John named his first son with middle name Lister.....NOW I know....wow this is my family's bible? I am descended from John Lees daughter Lucy Helen Lees. Sure hope you come back to rootsweb and check in you just really helped me solve a major puzzle. ;D

I sure would love to touch and see that bible....so if anyone here knows this poster offline please let him know a Lee's descendant has been found..... :)

Still unsure which maiden name tied into Lees family.....John Lees wife Ann I have no last name for but cannot find a marriage record for them. One never knows what will turn up next! Never thought I would find a bible page from one of my familys old bibles by googling. :)

Hello Ian. It’s very nice of you to reply on this thread. Belated condolences on the loss of your father. I’ll be interested to know if Lauriel is the person who ended up with the Bible. I may be wrong but I get the impression that she is in the USA. :)
-
yes i believe the bible made it to Laurel in the usa via another family relative who collected it from us .
good to know it didnt get into the waste system here in england and that it now has a good home with the people who are rightfull holders of it .
lucky my dad used to pick things up from the boot sales etc and save them from "the tip" .
great to know it eventually went back to its family .
regards
ian
