Please could anyone find any details of William Doughty. He was a baker in Mildenhall, but on the census's for him it states that he was born in "Raynham Norfolk" I have tried without success to find him listed anywhere.
I have everything I need from the time he arrived in Mildenhall. I just need a birth. He would have been born approx 1781. Anything related to him being in Norfolk would be gratefully recieved.
Thanks

Hi Cardiff,
After having a quick look at the censuses, I think there's a typo in the post and it should read 1781 instead.
-
Hi
Thanks for that ;)

Ooops
Sorry you're absolutely correct 1781. I've changed it in the original post.
Another census says he was born in 1778.

There's a William Doughty born to parents John and Elizabeth 24 March 1788 in West Raynham and baptised in East Rainham according to free reg. You could also check up on the pilot family search site as it looks as though they have the relevant registers.

Thanks Kaysii
Yes that definitely looks likely. Born in 1778.
I've looked for ages for him and you find him in hours
Thank you.
Anyone knowing who he married or who his parents were. Could they let me know?

I'm still looking for information on William, I now know he had a sister called Ann, also born in East Raynham and two other siblings Benjamin and Maria, both of whom died as children. As Kaysii said his parents were John Doughty and Elizabeth. I'd like to find out who William married if possible, I know her first name was Elizabeth.
Thanks

Sylvia. He does not appear to have married in East Raynham with West Raynham between 1798 - 1820. Look at the census, 1851 onwards, and see where his wife was born, also if possible, when and where the first child was born; the marriage could be from then to two years back. Use the link to find films of Norfolk PRs: - http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#r=1;p=allCollections Scroll to bottom; find "England, Norfolk Parish registers"; select and then select your village/town. Good Luck MIK.

Hi MIK
Thanks for trying to help. We now have 4 families that need this information and we are trying to work together.
We know he wasn't married in East/West Raynham, Neither did he marry in Mildenhall. So presumably somewhere in between, but this is a lot of parishes to cover, all the children were born in Mildenhall as far as we know. We have searched all Norfolk parishes but cannot come up with a likely marriage.
Your point about his wife's birthplace on the census... she died in 1803 so nothing to be found there.
One option might be records showing him leaving or entering a parish ie poor law, if anyone has access to such things.
Any more help would be gratefully received by all of us. Thanks

There are a lot of William Doughtys around. Using family pilot search for marriages in England, there is a William Doughty of Cromer marrying an Elizabeth Doughty in Whitwell 13 December 1797. You can find this record on the parish registers. You will need to check if there is a William Doughty born in Cromer or if the couple lived and died in Whitwell whilst your William were in Mildenhall. You can find the Whitwell record on the Norfolk registers image 36 of the 1752-1812 registers.
If it is the right one, he would have been underage. Also, the Mildenhall births of William and Elizabeth Doughty in the family pilot search have one who was born in 1792 and some after 1803. As they seem to be baptised a long time after they were born, they might have been born elsewhere.
