Hello There......
I have a family member, who was in the RAF , and was mentioned in The New Years Honours List of 1944 (Walter Keith North ) as Mentioned in Dispatches.......
I have the notification, from his Commanding Officer, 31 / 1 / 1944 , Royal Air Force Station, North Coates , Grimsby.... Can anyone tell me if this would have been published, and if so where ??
Thank You , so much

They are published in The Times, and I would have thought in the London Gazette.

Jeannie - most honours are listed in the official Gazette, but I'm not sure about "mentioned in dispatches", as there wasn't a medal. The various gazettes are searchable via:

You may have a problem as names may be in full or with initials, or even in reverse - North W K & with this surname I suspect you'd get lots of irrelevant stuff.
Good luck!

Yes MIDs do get mentioned in the London Gazette as mshrmh says and it does get complicated. If you have a service number that helps. You will find thought that it doesnt say anything other than their name. You might have to go back several pages which you can do easily when you look at the pdf copy to find the heading page! It is easy to print from the pdf copy as well.

Hi There.....
Thank You all so much for your imput.
You are quite correct....the Gazette is a nightmare to search !! But very addictive.....
I have other members of the family, searching through old letters etc for Walter's service number.
I have managed to find his obituary, which has given quite a bit of information, which we knew nothing about......
Thank You again

Thanks for that - it's helpful, I didn't know the London Gazette showed the town or district where those awarded medals came from. Helps if you can narrow down the search a bit!

I had a message about another MID from the RAF Museum at Hendon to say that MIDs were given for all sorts of reasons. It might be worth trying to get the F540 for North Coates to see if anything has been put in there. National Archives (another fascinating place!) is the best for those!
