Title: Austin Birtwhistle
Post by: Birtwhistle on Thursday 13 May 10 22:27 BST (UK)
Anyone know this name? My great grandfather born around 1890, may or may not have been married to my great grandfather - lived in Rhyl with her probably from around 1910 to 1915, my grandmother was born then and then disappeared and was never seen again. My grandmother thought he had a second (or first) family somewhere else. He is not on any census but is on her birth certificate and did fight in the first world war in 1914, possibly in the  Cheshire Regiment. Her middle name was Louvain, which was destroyed by the Germans August 1914 and my grandmother always said he had been there, which must have been between August and December of that year as she was born December. Desperate to find out what happened to him, somehow he left a gap in the family which still resonates now. Anyone out there got a Austin Birtwhistle as a grandfather? ???

Hi, i don't have a subscription to the 1911 census, but just on a search, the other male party in the marriage list is
a George William Casey, and in the 1911 search results there is a George William Casey living with a
Mary Elizabeth in the Ashton-under-Lyne registration district.
So it would appear that Austin Birtwhistle married Mary Emily Griffiths in 1906.

Al

This gentleman seems to be in Rhyl on the 1911 index, and appears on the 1881 and 1891 censuses with the same spelling:

Births Sep 1878
BIRDWHISTLE   Austin
Ashton 8d 545

Marriages Mar 1908
BIRDWHISTLE   Austin
HUGHES   Sarah Ann
St Asaph 11b 438

There is a possible daughter registered in St Asaph district in Jan Q 1915 under the surname BIRTWHISTLE (mother HUGHES) who has middle initial L.

I had posted the link to this thread on the other one but it has been ignored so info has been duplicated

I will ask the moderator to merge these 2 threads

Not possible to merge two threads with so much information on them

I will lock this - please use the other from now onward, thanks.

(See how annoying duplication can be?)
