I am busy doing my second cousin's family tree and have come to a point where I have a choice between two possible fathers......
I would be very grateful if anyone who has access to Parish Records could look up the following marriage for me please :
Virgil Anderton to Elizabeth Ann Worswick (it is Elizabeth's father that I am stuck on!)
June 1875 Burnley (info from FreeBMD).
Unfortunately, I am not sure of the Parish so it is probably a lot to ask ..... but it is probable that it is Padiham which is where they lived and the children were baptised. The father's father was a member of the Unitarian Church.
With many thanks

Hello Dee
Thank you for the reply - this family was one of my possibilities..... but I found another Elizabeth Worswick with father Peter, born in Lancashire (Ashton) - BUT now I have looked again, I think that logically your family must be right.... born in Padiham etc. I suppose that my brain wasn't functioning logically before!!
Thank you again for putting me straight! ;D

Hi Tilly. It was the only family I could find that was consistent with their birth details as Padiham. But to be really sure the Marriage Cert is the only way to go - I know they are costly, but at this stage its probably better than the Birth Certificate.

Hi Dee
You read my mind!! Although I think this is 99 per cent sure the right family, I think that I will order the marriage certificate just to be certain..... especially as it isn't my family tree, I don't want to give any wrong information if I can avoid it.
Thank you again for your help

Hi
To look up a marriage in parish records - you have to know which church the marriage took place in. This marriage has been transcribed on LancsBMD but was "Burnley Register Office or Registrar Attended" so no church shown. If it had been the Unitarian church - I think the name would be transcribed on the entry - unless the Unitarian Church was treated the same way as the RC church in relation to marriage (ie) a registrar had to carry out a "legal" marriage as the Unitarian rector was not authorised to marry
The Burnley registration district covered a large area which is why the venue has to be known

You will need to buy a copy of the cert unfortunately
