I am trying to find parents of Thomas Bentham (b abt 1833) in Thornton. First definite 'sighting' is in 1861 census married to Hannah Craven and a farmer in Thornton. The 1841 and 1851 census is more unclear (to me at least!) I think in 1851 he was working as a farm servant in Bingley (all household are listed as'British subject' - no place of birth given). I am finding tracing his birth difficult as the 1841 census might put his father as Jonas Bentham or Jonas Benton (both subsequently disappear from the next census). Would be most grateful for advice on how to proceed - a newbie ! Thank you
