Looking for information on HORLE families who are found in Banwell late 1700's-~1840
Parents = James HORLE and Hester ROWLEY/BOWLEY, married 1779 in Locking
Children: James (bap 1783 Hutton), Jacob (bap 1790 Banwell), Isaac (bap 1792 Banwell), Samuel (bap 1797 Banwell), John (b Hutton ~1789 per Banwell settlement exam 1818); Joel (bap 1794 Banwell), Hester (bap 1799 Banwell)
James (mar Sarah?), Jacob (mar Sarah?), Isaac (mar Elizabeth/Betsy?), Samuel (mar Ann ?Manning) and John (mar Elizabeth Manning) emigrated from Banwell to US, specifically Skaneateles, Onondaga Co, New York area about 1830-1845
Joel and Hester remained in Banwell/Locking. Joel mar Mary Richard; Hester mar John Harris.
I am particularly interested in James1783, who was in 2nd Batt, 9th Regiment of Foot in Peninsula War. He had a settlement exam in Banwell in 1813 indicating wife Sarah, daughter Mary Ann (b~1810) and son James (b 1812). James1812 was born in Gibraltar, per a family bible. His son Thomas was born 1821 Banwell, and is my direct ancestor.
Spelling variants: Horl, Horle, Harl, Harle, Hurl, Hurle, Horel (in US)
Thank you for any help you can offer about these families.

Hello karebrad,
Is it possible to advise what type of information would be useful to you? I see that you have quite a bit of detail on the family, so wondered what would be helpful to you.
I take it that you have census returns for those living then?
I have links to one of the surname variants but they come from the villages round West Cranmore.

Thank you for the fast reply!
My current brick walls are:
1. lineage of James Horle who married Hester Rowley/Bowley.
2. Sarah? who married James1783
I have compiled most of my Banwell information from communication with the historians in Banwell, one of whom is a direct descendent of Joel Horle.
Since my direct line and most of the other siblings left England prior to 1841, there are no English census records for them.
I have tracked all of them in the US census, and some other records.
But these brick walls are huge :)
I included information about James1783 military service in hopes that others might have found records for non-officers in that unit.
I truly appreciate any suggestions!
Kindest regards, Karen

Hello -
My name is Chris Rubeo and I am descended from Harriet Horle (1824-1915). Her parents were Jacob Horle and Sarah of Banwell. Karen, I believe Nick Miller emailed you about me? He sent me some great pics and an article from a trip you took to Banwell in 2006. Well done! I'd love to speak with you and compare notes.
Thanks -
Chris

Hello karebrad,
I think the surname variants are the problem here. In the old days they spellings were phonetic and with the Somerset accent, the versions could vary tremendously.
I noticed a baptism of a Sarah Hurly in Hutton in 30 March 1761. She was the daughter of Thomas and Mary Hurly, abode: Hutton.
Hutton was where James was baptised in 1783, so there may be a link.
