Title: GRO Index
Post by: paulharrison57 on Tuesday 11 May 10 16:48 BST (UK)
I have traced some of my relatives living in Prestwich on the free BMD and have their GRO Indexes.

I would like to request a copy of the relevant Birth/Marriage and Death certificates from Bury CC Registry office but they have told me that they do not use GRO Indexes. Since I cannot find any entries on the Lancashire BMD is there any other source reference I can refer to besides GRO Index.

Best Regards,

Paul

Names, dates [even just quarters] and places are usually sufficient when asking for certs. at a Register Office.
eg Joe Bloggs born Sept 1879, Prestwich. Mention the parents if you know them, for checking purposes.
Marriages can be difficult sometimes if you do not have the church or parish.
Deaths - name, date and age at death, and place are usually enough.

Also, have you found any of these relatives in a census? Might help.
